This is much lighter than my son's previous case, (which was a nasty, falling apart hand me down from daddy). He can loop it over his shoulder while still carrying his backpack full of stuff. The only thing that I would change, if I could, would be to make the side pocket bigger so that it could hold his music folder and practice book. It holds all of his cleaning suppies, but most of them don't need to be dragged back and forth to school with him, so it's kind of pointless for him to store them in there as that just adds extra weight for him to have to lug around. Right now he just has to put it on top of his coronet before he zips up the case, which is putting lore wear and tear on his instrument as well as making his folder and music book misshapen.Regardless of the side pocket size, I am still happy I made this purchase. It has made transport to and from school much easier for him by having both a handle as well as a shoulder strap. The instrument feels as safe in this "soft" case as it could be in a hard case. To put it in the case, he unzips and opens the lid 45 degrees, the same as his old "hard" case, but this soft case is more padded for his horn than his old case. It gets completely surrounded by heavy duty foam that has been covered in very soft fabric and "form-fitted" for his coronet. His old "hard" trumpet case allowed his small coronet to shift at times and the interior was hard except for a velvet-like material lining on the "mold" ( it was an old case, so it only had flat wood pieces strategically placed to "hold" the horn in place. This is a huge step up from that! The exterior material seems to be sturdy and crafted well. I believe the description claimed the case to be either water proof or water resistant, and although we have not submerged the case in water, it has survived being carried around in the rain as well as survived being dragged around town by my sun to his after school sporting events and being left out in "nature" while he participated in his other activities, without a problem as far as we have seen. He will have had the case for about 2 months as of Nov. 2016.

My kid has used this case for a few models of short cornet and it works well. It's satisfactorily protective and holding up well. It smells better than vintage cornet cases, and more protective. We have fit in it a 1950s Holton Collegiate, a 1940s Holton Model 29, and a '71 Yamacon Director. Have not tested a SC cornet. Will probably not fit a long cornet.Problems (as pointed out by others): 1. Strap is situated to make the thing hang weird--it tips over. It doesn't go anywhere but it feels wrong. 2. No place for music except that tempting but not quite large enough pocket on the side. If you get this for a kid, make sure they know not to put music in the case on top of the instrument. 3. it's lightweight (a good thing) but that means if you open it, it will flop over a bit or close. You can't easily leave the case open. 4. Zippers might be a smidge tough to work. But it's cheap and it's light and the kid carrying it is going to be so much happier than the kid carrying the rental hard case.2021 update: after about 3 years the kid moved to a cornet that doesn't fit. The case held up fine for 3 years of middle-high school. It will NOT hold a '50s King Master Model and will NOT hold a '50s Conn 80A. (Not that you thought it would...)

It's a basic case that appears to be well made, and which offers a reasonable amount of protection. It fits a Bach Stradivarius Cornet Model 181 (the long model) perfectly (see picture 1). It also fits an Olds Ambassador Cornet reasonably well (also a long model), with this cornet being a bit shorter than the Bach (see picture 2). In addition, it fits a Besson BE 1020 Cornet marginally well (short model with shepherd's crook), with the fit around the 3rd valve slide being a bit tight (see picture 3).

At first glance this seemed like a good case - sturdy, yet light, and well padded inside. My only criticism at first was that although it has pockets on the outside for small items, it does not have a place to store sheet music. The case is plenty big enough to have such a pocket on the side. Now, a year later, the case is already deteriorating. The screws holding the hinges on seem to be just screwed into foam, so they have pulled out. This is definitely not a high quality case. Also because of the design, with the zipper going round the exact middle of the case, the shoulder strap has to be attached just on one side of the zipper, which makes the case awkward to carry, feeling very unbalanced.

Nice and compact and protects my standard sized coronet well. Stuffed a few small mutes in the side pocket which is not bulging. Just enough room in the case for valve oil and an extra mouthpiece or two (there is a built in slot for 1 mouthpiece). Pretty much exactly what I was expecting.

After using for less than 3 months this case fell apart. The screws came out of the hinged area of the lid. I would not recommend buying this case.

This is a nice case. My cornet was about 1/2 inch too long and barely fit but good enough. It closes fine, cornet stays snug, and has a spot for the mouthpiece. It would be nice to be able to fit sheet music without folding it but I knew that before buying based on other reviews. It's still definitely worth the 60 bucks instead of other cases that cost over $100 bucks.

I bought this case for my son's SA Herald cornet, he's a klutz, the horn fits snug without being too tight, the case is light weight but solid and protective.

A little bulkier than expected, but great for travelling with.
