I use both these and the threaded insert rivets. I drill three holes for each, I slide these into the intended tube, line up the main bolt hole and secure a bolt with a copper pipe on it to tension it up against the wall of the tube, then weld through two smaller holes securing the insert to the tube. It works

I use these and several other sizes to weld into place for various race car fabrication work. They are a super handy and inexpensive means to install fasteners that don’t require extra tools to hold a nut, especially in “blind†applications like behind a firewall or a seat mount. I highly recommend them.
