As a herpetologist, I feel qualified to comment on this hook. Yes, the tip is slightly pointed and would be better if it were beveled flat, but if you’re incompetent enough to stab a snake with this hook, you’d manage to kill it with a flat tip, too. The construction of the tip is very solid and the weld is secure. It’s a v-hook rather than a u-hook, so it isn’t ideal for very large, heavy-bodied snakes like pythons, boas, or vipers. Would work very well for colubrids and large elapids. The pole is stable and reliable, but at full extension I wouldn’t use it as a heavy debris-flipper. It should flip plywood and tin without fuss, but I doubt it could handle steel or large rocks. The telescoping mechanism is pretty clever — it’s very tight when extended but collapses easily without snaps or screws. The flashlight attaches easily and securely, and is quirky, but a cool idea. Generally if you’re out herping at night you’ll have a good head lamp, but rather than be rendered superfluous, a light on the hook for a bit of extra illumination is a pretty cool idea. All in all, I love it. It isn’t my primary hook, just ‘cause I wouldn’t trust it to not bend flipping a hefty rock, but it’s more than good enough for the price, and if you take an angle grinder to the tip to bevel it, it really has no functional downsides.

It's a decent size it seems pretty sturdy the flashlights kind of cheap and the snake hook on the bottom should be flat along the bottom it's safer for the handler because it can't roll if it's flat and it puts less stress on the snake because you don't have to press this hard down on the back of their head when I was a kid we made I made my own and my grandfather's blacksmith shop. And we flatten the bottom and I asked my grandfather herpetologist why we flattened it and he explained it to me the way I explained it to you. My dog and I are heading out to hunt snakes now and lizards he likes the lizards.

There are a lot of snakes where I live. Mostly black snakes, 4+ feet long. I do my best not to harm them if I do not have too. I typically use whatever I can find and a bucket. This can lead to injury to the snake. This along with the grabber will make the job easier on me and the snakes. Nice and long so I do not have to take the risk of being bitten. So excited to have this!
