Great piece of American manufacturing. The steel used is top notch (1080 carbon) so it takes a super sharp edge and holds it for what seems like forever. Didn’t come very sharp at all, had more of what I would consider a courtesy grind, but i love sharpening so this was preferable for me. It was usable as it came though. Very nice handle, straight grain. And a nice usable sheath. Definitely not some super high quality sheath, but it does its job, and most of the axes in this price range don’t even come with one. This is the perfect bushcraft/pack axe. All in all I’m very pleased with it. I’ve been using it for about 6 months now on everything from cutting down small trees, splitting, and finer work like making tent stakes and feather sticks. The only thing that could make this better would be a hardened poll.Very good product. I think you get a lot for your money here.,

Beautiful axe, nice weight, great balance, great feel on the handle. Nice touch on the leather protector. Perfect length for a bushcraft or camp axe when a hatchet is not enough. Factory edge adequately sharp, I’ll hit with the whetstones. It’s American Made and for the money you can’t be beat.

Nice axe head, straight blade, needed to be sharpened but that was to be expected. The only issue was the handle wasThinner than the picture showed and the grain had a twist in it. I hope it holds up to use over time.

I love that this axe and handle are made in USA and my home state of Maine. I am glad the Amish is Smyrna saved this old USA company. The head showed up dull, but a few hours with a file and the honing puck and it was perfect razor sharp. The handle was perfect. about 8 degrees off dead center, but perfect. No knots, and no grain runout. Handle fit was perfect with the head. Sheath is real leather and very tight fitting.

Sturdy. If you want a simple well made small axe/hatchet this is perfect. Very comfortable and well balanced. I’ve not gone camping or anything with it yet but it’s my go to around the house. (Bought this axe a couple years ago and it’s still in great shape in spite of constant use)

As a warning to the casual purchaser, these axes need finished by a bit of work with a metal file and stones (or sand paper) or quick work with a water wheel. I knew this before purchasing, and that is not my complaint. I bought this axe to have a good American made axe, but was shocked to find out when I received it that the heads come from China. I contacted Snow and Nealley who told me all their axe heads have come from China for the past 7 years, and are tempered in the US (handles come from Tennessee). I investigated its source after noticing the poor symmetry of the head, a severe shallow spot near the bit edge, and slight curve to the bit edge that shouldn't be there. I searched threads online and came across several commenters who claim the hardness is just not there with this company. I returned the S&N axe and bought a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe, hand forged in Sweden. The handle is 3-4 inches shorter on the GB axe, but the head is much more lithe and works amazingly. I'm sure the S&N is a good axe, but I expect higher quality for the price. That said, the look and feel of the axe is very comfortable. If you're just looking for a once or twice a year axe, I'd get something cheaper.

After reading reviews and watching reviews on YouTube, I took a chance on this camp axe. After receiving the axe, I did some work on it. With a good sanding and sharpening oiling the handle this axe has been nothing but amazing if used as intended. I even went outside the bounds and chopped some full size logs and this thing excelled. It’s a great product and if you keep in mind axes don’t come out of the box ready to use, you will be impressed too. I would rebuy and rehang this axe head time and time again if necessary. I’m already looking into their full size felling and splitting axe and look forward to owning the line. Thank you
