We have free range chickens which causes a problem with droppings in the backyard and on our patio. I purchased two of these, recorded one with barking dog (shotgun sound comes with, but would have disturbed the neighbors), and one with screeching owl. WORKS GREAT! Chickens come into the yard but don’t stay once the alarms go off. I wish there was a way to turn off the lights so a human intruder at night couldn’t see the unit, just hear the growling dog and not be sure where it was coming from.

It has gunshot sounds and screams.. not something I want in my backyard with neighbors and the edge of the park. It is programmable. I make a pretty good cougar sound and the recording is darn loud. It has been out in all kinds of weather .. thought it would have drown by now but held up well. The racoons don't like it. Even beat it up a bit before they run off. Had to turn it down a bit now that it's warmer.. it is loud. I hear it at night and look out the window to see what is moving around my back yard. Will warn of people who don't belong there as well.

I had it set to the lowest volume on gun shots & dog bark. The first morning at 2:50 a mama deer and fawn casually walked up to eat more of my tomato plants and were met with gun shots, dogs barking and red lights flashing. They looked at it for a moment and decided to turn around and go somewhere else. Ideally, I would like the volume level to be adjustable somewhere between medium and low volume, but ...I live in a residential neighborhood. The high and medium volumes at day or night would be annoying to the neighbors. I think the low volume is a bit marginal, whereas being able to set the volume exactly where I want it would be socially and functionally optimum. After a couple of weeks of use, the deer are no longer concerned about it. The neighborhood cats see it as a toy to be challenged, or just ignored. Last night it decided to changed the volume from low to high, all by itself. It's losing my trust. Perhaps it could be used to scare kids on Halloween by recording some eerie sounds, or just using the gun shots and dogs barking preprogrammed recording.

Overview: They work well overall, but need a sensitivity setting and more customization. They sometimes do not work well in rain/fog. If it's a windy day/night, they're going to be sounding frequently. They really need a feature to upload your own sound since the recording option is just fair quality at best. Bluetooth/app functions would be a huge improvement.Details: We purchased a few of these since the deer keep eating all the flowers, even the buds and leaves. Sprays and granules and other methods have worked, but fade over time or with the weather. These work well most of the time unless it's rainy or foggy. The solar panels seem to keep them charged, so they don't need a power cord if you can't run one. They have three volume levels. We usually keep ours on medium so it's loud enough to scare the deer and keep them away, but quiet enough to not annoy the neighbors at all hours. We keep most of ours on night-only mode, but keep in mind that if you do that, they will not work early in the morning during sunrise when animals are still active! We do keep a couple on 24-hour mode, which will work all day, but it will go off when people walk by, cars drive by (40+ feet away) or even when birds are around. These really need a sensitivity setting to allow more customization, or better yet, since everything is "smart" these days, allow pairing with Bluetooth and an app to set multiple settings. I would love to be able to set high sensitivity between certain hours, then low or medium the rest of the time. If you can handle hearing these during the day, then it's worth it to keep the deer away. Otherwise, keep them on night-only mode. Lastly, the medium volume also cannot be heard much inside the house. We have ours only a few feet away from one of the windows and we can barely hear it inside with the window closed. I don't hear them at all at night, but the deer definitely do and they stay away! If these had more customization for settings (especially with an app), I'd happily give these 5 stars. There also is an option to make your own recording, but I find the default noise works well enough. I'd also like to have the option of just having the dogs barking sound without the gunshots. These also really need better programming to distinguish a vehicle vs an animal. Overall they help, but they have a lot of room for improvement.

First off, as others have reported the prerecorded sound is a very loud gun shot followed by barking dogs. It will scare you even when you know what it is. There is only the one prerecorded sound. You can add your own recording via the built-in microphone. Then you can choose which of the recordings to use when it detects motion. We recorded dogs barking from a sound bite we played on our computer, which was much quieter than the very loud prerecorded gunshot and dogs. I'm sure our neighbors appreciate it!So now we set it up in our front yard and successfully tested it. A day later it was breezey out and all night long we could it going off as the plants moving in the wind triggered it. Well at least it wasn't terribly loud.A couple of days later, I triggered it as I walked by and instead of my recording, it played the loud gunshot and dogs. I just about cr@pp3d myself. It immediately switched back to my recording on the next trigger.So the negatives are that it triggers easy and occasionally plays the default recording.The pluses are that it stays charged via the built in solar panel and that it seems to be keeping the deer out of our yard.An occasional loud gunshot is the price I have to pay!

Love the flashing lights and vicious dogs barking, in addition to the shot gun blasting. It seems to be deterring my bobcat visitor. Will see if cat gets used to it. Purchasing a second one so both ends of the chicken roost are protected. I do like the option for recording additional sounds as well- could be handy if bobcat becomes desensitized. Also looking forward to testing its durability….Phoenix area summer heat has been brutal.

I have got the problem with the foxes coming to my garden everyday, and they are making mess everywhere. Which then I have to clean everytime. It's is a big headache to clean fox mess. Since I bought this alarm it does helping me to keep foxes away from my garden. It has got dog barking sound on it, which scares the foxes, that's how it's helping me to keep the foxes away from my garden. It has got a button which you can control the volume of the alarm. I will recommend this to everyone.
