Frequently Asked Questions

1.How many hours of direct sunlight does a Ring Solar Panel need for my device to stay charged?

For best performance, Karotto recommends at least 3 hours of direct sunlight per day for Solar Panel. With the recommended amount of direct sunlight, the device will remain continuously charged under most conditions. Please Make sure there are no obstructions or objects that could cast a shadow on your solar panel, such as an extended roof, tree, or bush.

2.Will solar power keep my Ring camera charged during cloudy or seasonal weather?

Karotto solar products require direct sunlight to stay charged and provide power to the device. If the weather is cloudy or it rains/snows, this would limit the direct sunlight your device receives, which would lessen the charge. Colder temperatures may also cause excessive drain to your device’s lithium-ion battery. With prolonged cloudy or winter weather, you may need to manually recharge the battery more frequently. When sunny weather returns and the solar panel receives enough direct sunlight again, it will keep the device powered.

3.How can I install my solar panel to get the most sunlight and the maximum solar charge?

Seasonality and how far north or south you live affects the strength of the sun. If you live in the northern hemisphere, install your solar panel facing South. If you live in the southern hemisphere, install it facing North. Karotto recommends to use the adjustable arm to angle the panel at about 45 degrees toward the sky to get the most sunlight possible.

4.Will a Karotto solar panel keep my device fully charged at 100% battery level?

The battery level of the device will vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the solar panel receives. Even with exposure to maximum sunlight, the battery level will not exceed a threshold of around 90%—this is to extend the lifetime of the battery.

I was worried it might not be compatible with the Ring outdoor camera I had, given how much cheaper it was, but it charges it perfectly and was easy to set up with everything included in the box, including an ample length cable physically attached on the panel (one less connector to corrode) and a plug at the other. The swivel attachment was adequate, though I've tightened it a couple of times since installing a few months ago as the panel "drooped" a bit.Ring sends alerts intermittently suggesting the camera is now hard wired and would I like to switch to that mode. At first I thought this might be a compatibility problem, but reading the Ring forums suggests that the OEM panel does this too. 🤷‍♀️

East as you can imagine to set up. And works perfectly. My family was having to come over when I was using batteries only, every month or so because the camera was too high up for me. Now, I never have to even think about it because they stay charged with this solar set up.

Update after 1 week:Well, it can charge to 91%, and it charges even if the status shows disconnected. So I am not bothered and will keep it.Original post:I am a bit torn for this one. On the one hand, it is easy to install, connects to and charges my Ring stickup cam sometimes. On the other hand, it keeps disconnecting from the Ring cam, at least what the status of solar on Ring app shows. The funky thing is that sometimes it charges the battery even though it shows disconnected, and sometimes it shows connected and charging, but the highest it can go is 87%. On cloudy days where the panel is not generating any or enough charge, it always shows disconnected. On sunny days for the most part it shows connected but again never charge above 87%. There also seems to be a charging management system where charging kicks in if battery level falls below 80%. Anyhow I am confused by the behaviors of this panel; will keep it for now and observe another week before deciding to keep or return it.

I have always used OEM solar panels without issue. But this product doesn't seem very compatible. I get about 50-80 alerts EVERY DAY saying my camera is plugged in and asks if I want to switch to wired mode. The camera is set at solar panel for the power source. Incredibly annoying!
