This kit was great. It gave me two places to work with my sourdough starter. I keep one in the fridge with the starter that is sleeping, and use the other to hold my starter on the counter once I have fed it for a recipe. The elastic band around the jar works well to see where the starter originated in the jar.

This is a very nice and complete starter kit. I'm new at making sourdough bread, but so far it has everything I need. The starter jars are sturdy and well marked (I hand wash). It comes with a temperature strip that will stick (not removeable) to the jars. It's very accurate and you can easily see the temperature. I'm very pleased with this set!

As someone who has been working with sourdough for a few years now, I am annoyed at myself for not switching things up sooner. This product includes everything you need to get started or continue your sourdough journey. The kit includes 2- 34oz Sourdough starter jars (I love having one clean and ready for when it’s time to tidy up my jar) and two types of lids (bamboo and cloth), 2 bread slings, 2 spatulas, measuring spoons, a dough scraper and more.Up until now, I have been using mason jars to maintain my starter and while that is all good and well, having something that is easier to clean makes all the difference – and by that I mean, having a wider jar with straight sides (as opposed to a mason jar) – makes it so much easier to clean or even scrape the sides for a cleaner view of my growing starter. The kit includes long spatulas for easy reach into the jar as well as an elastic band which I have really enjoyed. Previously, I’d mark my jar with a dry erase marker or use a rubber band if I could find one in my house. The elastic band stays securely on the jar and marks where your starter began when last fed and how much it has risen. The band also includes time and day markings so that you are able to keep track of when your starter was last fed.All in all, if you’re looking for something to get started with sourdough or just help you out a bit, this kit is a great way to get all the accessories you may need.

I absolutely love Skyma's sourdough starter kit! It includes everything needed for baking sourdough. The jar is high-quality, and the airtight bamboo lid keeps everything fresh. Highly recommended!

If you’re in the market for tools to make your sourdough journey easier, you have quite a few options to choose from here on Amazon. I think this is a particularly good one: its components are thoughtfully designed, of good quality, and at a very fair price point. As a decades-long home baker of artisan breads, I’m both surprised and pleased by how this kit significantly upgrades my baking process. The good impressions began with the packaging, which included circular foam protection for the jars. I personally would prefer something paper-based for this purpose, but I greatly appreciate the obvious care that went into ensuring safe shipping for this kit.The jars, in fact, are what first drew me, having struggled over the years with a variety of vessels for the messy job of sourdough mothering. These are essentially straight-sided, spout-less borosilicate beakers, so there are no awkward curves or threaded rims to deal with. They’re quite a bit larger than I need, but that also makes it easier to thoroughly stir any amount of starter and allows plenty of room for doubling or tripling volumes—speaking of which, the wide stretchy black bands for marking starter levels are far superior to rubber bands, which are devilishly hard to level. I don’t need to use the date and time markers on them, but they’d come in handy for building a new starter from scratch. A chalk pen is thoughtfully included for marking both the leveling bands and the adhesive temperature strips. This kit truly supports near-obsessive starter monitoring, which I personally don’t need, but I appreciate having the tools should I need them.I was also drawn to the cloth covers (for ripening a starter on the counter) and the bamboo lids for longer storage. Both are sturdy and well-made: the cotton covers are thick with firmly stitched, true casings for the elastic; they’ll hold up to many washings. The bamboo lids are nicely finished and have silicone gaskets for a snug fit. Just a tip based on my prior experiences with bamboo lids: if you’re going to store your starter in the refrigerator, first place a bit of plastic film or wrap under the bamboo lid before sealing it in place. Bamboo lids have a way of absorbing moisture from wet contents over days in the fridge, which leads to warping and cracking. Maybe someday we’ll have nice bamboo lids with built-in moisture barriers . . .The rest of the kit consists of thin (jar) spatulas, dough slings, a bench knife, and measuring spoons. The spatulas are very nice and a perfect match for the straight-sided jars, with metal reinforcement that runs almost all the entire length of the blade for easy stirring of thick starters and effective side-scraping (one of the photos shows me pressing the tip of a spatula firmly against metal). Two spatulas of this quality could easily cost as much as this entire kit. Needless to say, they’ll be useful for much more than stirring sourdough starter.I used the dough slings for a recent bake and was thrilled to be able to dispense with parchment paper for transferring proofed loaves into the Dutch oven. If you’ve proofed your loaf in a banneton or basket, just cover the dough with the sling, hold it in place on either side while picking up the basket, then gently invert onto a surface and carefully remove the basket. Score the loaf (if you like), then use the side tabs of the sling to lift and place the loaf (on the sling) into the Dutch oven. Likewise, the side tabs make it much easier (and safer) to remove the partially baked loaf from a screaming hot Dutch oven to fully brown on an oven rack. If you proof your loaves on a flat surface, just place the sling flat on the surface and place the shaped dough on top of it. After a lifetime of trimming parchment paper for this purpose, these slings are a serious game-changer!A sturdy bench knife (scraper) is a welcomed addition; I find I can’t have too many in my kitchen. The blade on this one has measurement markings in centimeters rather than inches but will still be serviceable for, say, cutting dough for individual kouign amann. The only part of the kit that disappoints is the plastic measuring spoons, which, honestly, seem unnecessary in a kit for bakers who almost certainly already have a set.Altogether, I find this kit a great combination of quality, thoughtfulness, and value that significantly enhances my sourdough baking. If you’ve been struggling to choose from among the many kits available, I hope this helps you decide!

As soon as I opened this set (Skyma Sourdough Starter Kit - 2 Pack 34 oz, Sourdough Starter Jar with 2 Bread Slings, Spatula Set, 5x Measuring Spoons, Dough Scraper & More Sourdough Bread Baking Supplies) up, I realized how nice it really is and how thoughtful the material included is for anyone who's a seasoned baker or a beginner.I was using the standard mason jars with a sticky note stuck to it to mark off the level when I fed my starter. This obviously works but with this kit, I feel so much more efficient, organized, and kind of fun to use. I like that it has the straight sides for easy reaching in and stirring, I like the temperature sticker that will give a quick temp reading, and I like the band that easily fits the glass and mark off when you last fed your starter and later see how much it has risen. I also love that it was a 2pk with a great capacity and a great price. It even comes with two silicone spatulas for mixing and scooping, fabric covers provides good air circulation, a set of measuring spoons, and 2 dough slings which I didn't have before but welcome the use of them. I really love this set, I'm so happy I was able to get this.
