This is the perfect fastener for thick wood members in a high corrosion zone, such as my dock repair. The no pre-drilling saves hours of labor when putting in hundreds of fasteners. We use an impact screw gun 18V battery style and it worked perfectly. I like to use the hex head wherever possible because less stripping of the head than with inner type screw heads such as Torx or Phillips. This fastener does exactly what it is designed to do. The best part is that on Amazon vs. local hardware or lumber store these are half the cost. A truly excellent value for a well made and well designed product.

I wish all things were old school American made like these. I am a structural engineer working on fun projects in the Poconos now and these work great with full size timber. They are thoughtfully created to make the end user's job easy. Even though they don't advertise pre-drilling I still do some minimal prep to make sure I know all the wood is happy, especially the really old dry wood. I love watching the timbers submit to the fasteners strength and these do it. I actually pulled an old cabin into plumb with one 1/2" fastener. I know they seem expensive at first but once you use them you'll realize they're in another class of hardware. I drive them with a cordless Makita lineman's tool and it's super simple.

Used the 6" and 4" Spax screws on this shed roof project. They really do start very quickly so the thread is a good design. Saves on battery life on my impact driver and saves my fingers when holding and they start right away unlike other screws I've used where my fingers start heating up before they go into the wood. I only wish the 6" screws had more thread to them.

Tried the LionMax 5†and there is no comparison to the Spax. The draw of the Spax as well as bite is vastly superior. I could use one hand to drive the Spax while it took a gloved hand to hold the LionMax for a good 3 seconds plus before it would bite.

I used these to secure a carport onto wood ties, no issues screwing them in and the carport is still in place

Corrosion resistant lag screws 6 inches longSize says half inch, but the actual diameter is less than that.Easy to install. No pre-drilling required which is amazing for this large of a size.I do pre-drill when I use these in old, dry wood.
