Is it a stainless steel specimen cabinet, yes but way too much protective covering. I think I spent more time peeling the film off than I did installing the cabinet!I installed a different brand a couple weeks ago and for whatever reason it was no longer available. I picked this one because it was in the same price bracket. Little did I know it would be 100 % wrapped in the plastic film, inside and outside. The worst part was it left a residue behind that had to be cleaned off. Normally I have WD-40 with me and that probably would have made quick work of the residue removal. All I had at my disposal was alcohol wipes (installed in a lab room so thankfully there were plenty available) It required rigorous scrubbing.I know some protective film is required for scratch protection in the shipping process but please keep the installer in mind as well.

Overall, I am happy with this pass through box, but I do feel it could have nicer finishes on the edges. Once you mount it these edges are no longer an issue but they do reflect poorly on the box itself.I had to change the spring inside to a stiffer one so only one door would open at a time. This took a trip to a local big box store and only cost $2, not the end of the world. 4 STARS

I have to be completely honest...the spring? That "suppress (sic) the ability to open both doors simultaneously"?Does absolutely NOTHING to "suppress the ability to open both doors simultaneously."And some of the edges on this thing are wickedly sharp and un-dressed in any way. So be VERY careful when handling this, taking it out of the package, and installing it. And be careful removing it from the package, the shelf isn't secured and will drop onto your foot. It's not that heavy, but still hurts. And the plastic covering you have to peel off? Is just mean. The rest is pretty good...it's well made, does the job it's supposed to (except only allowing 1 door at a time to open), comes with mounting hardware, and should last for years and years. And it even looks kind of neat.

Just cut two holes, one on each side of the sheetrock wall using the loose flange as a template, put some screw anchors in the wall, and screwed it in place. Nice and secure, works perfectly for what we needed it for. If you don't use the tray that comes with it, you can see a bit into the next room through the gaps in the door. Did have a bit of a time removing the protective film that covered the entire product.
