Easy to crave, better than cheaper knock off lino

When I was a kid, I did wood-carved block prints. They were tons of fun, but took forever to do, so if you messed up, it was a minor disaster. These soft "linoleum" (not really, but that's what they call them) blocks are so easy to carve compared to wood, you will find yourself wanting to do more and more of them. They are flexible and you can transfer drawings onto them quite easily. The only down side I can see is that it's pretty easy to slip and make unwanted gouges (or cut off a figure's nose, as I did), but that can happen with more difficult blocks, too. I have found that the 4X6 size is the best suited for my journals, but there are other sizes as well. I'm on my third batch of these carving blocks and will no doubt order more.

If you are interested in carving and block priinting, go with a brand name--like Speedball. The off-brands I tried are not reliable; the top layer came off every time I washed my blocks. Speedy-Carve blocks will hold up!

Speedball easy carve, i love these easy carve blocks for making stamps, i do some block printing with them, but i prefer the higher quality blocks when making an actual print from linocut. Price is ok, wish they were a bit cheaper lol It cuts super easy, but you can loose some details if not careful

I have used a number of the carving blocks now. I find that they work very well. They are consistent when carving and hold ink very uniformly. I would also recommend the Speedball Linoleum Cutter ( Amazon link below).https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0017D8W5E?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I'm new to printmaking, and lino is tricky, so I've had a couple of botched projects. Failures are great for learning, but I was looking to have some successes while still learning the craft. I saw a video that recommended these for beginners, and wow - they are fantastic. They take a pencil transfer very well, and they carve like butter. I think I may even be able to use both sides, so I'll be able to make 40 small prints for the cost of this box. Highly recommend for other beginners.
