Caliper Selection

Vernier calipers

Vernier (sometimes called analog) calipers have a scale with a pointer; read the pointer's position directly on the scale. Venier calipers are available in SAE (inch), metric, or with a dual scale.

Dial calipers

Dial calipers are easier to read than vernier calipers, and can be used for differential measurements (plus-minus variations from a master measurement).

Electronic calipers

Standard electronic, or digital, calipers display readings as a numeric value, usually on a liquid crystal display. Some are available with a digital SPC output.
