Measuring a beefy, substantial 9.5" long and 1.5" wide with big, bright white numerals, this alcohol-based thermometer is easy to grasp and read, and it sinks like a stone for better readings than surface thermometers. Floating thermometers are less accurate as they are not completely submerged in your pool and will base its reading off of your pool, sunlight, wind, and the air surrounding it.

I had seen a few reviewers comment that it is hard to read and it is. The line markers are there but they didn't make them white like the main numbers or it would score much higher. I used a white grease pencil to make the marks visible, which at least made this usable. But then within a short period of time the liquid that gives you the temperature split into many sections and would not return to whole, see photo.DO NOT BUY THIS!

THE MERURY TUBE IS VERY THIN & THE CALIBRATIONS ON THE NUMBERS ARE DIFFICULT TO READ. I HAD TO HIGHLIGHT THE NUMBERS WITH WHITE NAIL POLISH TO FIGURE OUT THE TEMPERATURE. i WILL BE LOOKING FOR A DIFFERENT BRAND. i WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Got tired of buying a new pool thermometer every year! It's a pain to thread the line through the overflow vent and sitting in chlorinated water for 12 months degrades these products. This one doesn't sit in the pool: using the string, just dip it in the water to get an instant reading. Anyone who reports they can't read this one, needs to put on their glasses! It's a large thermometer with large numbers and a large glass (?) thermometer that is quick and easy to read. If a floating alligator or duck is a 'must have'...this one isn't for you.

We like this thermometer because the numbers are large and you can read them easily. The thermometer hangs besides the steps into the pool and we can check it as we get in. We have a heater and as soon as it turns off, we check the thermometer to make sure it shows the same temperature as we set the heater for. So far, so good. I'm happy with our buy and I'd buy another if we ever need one.
