I am in my mid 50's and had never seen this type of punch before I saw it being used in a YouTube video. I ordered one and set about learning to use it. You place the tip where you want to punch a dimple, then carefully pull back the spring loaded tip on the opposite end of the tool and let it snap back. If you need a deeper dimple, reposition the tip in the dimple you just made and repeat. Keep in mind that on steel or other harder materials, this tool creates a starter dimple that can be made deeper with a regular punch and hammer. There is different punch point angle on each end so you can select which one will work best. You can also modulate the depth of the dimple by simply pulling the spring back a little less before you let go. I've used it on hardened steel, mild steel, aluminum, UHMW plastic and both hard and soft wood and it worked great on all of them.

This thing has help of for months now of regular use. I use it mostly on aluminum fabrication and it works well, easy to gauge about 1/2†or less will make a decent hole to start drill bits, some of my peers had cheap automatic center punches break and always ask to borrow mine. It’s simple, rugged, and works beautifully. I couldn’t recommend it more.

First of all, I will say one thing- this company STANDS BEHIND their products. I received the item above, and as a locksmith I needed a punch for hardened steel, and also removing door hinge pins. After testing it, I found that this "particular" model (while still great) didnt meet my needs. Why I will buy from them- the customer service is amazing. I contacted them over emails, explained what was going on, they not only addressed my issue, but did so in a way that I will tell all my locksmith buddies to try this tool out. Do yourself a favor, try this tool out

Had a big project drilling over 300 holes in 3/16" steel. This punch delivers! It's easy to align the punch perfectly and create a nice divot to guide the drill bit. Tip doesn't show any wear. Very impressed with the tool.

When you need to mark a spot for drilling, why not punch it so that the drill bit does not walk? This is an American made tool that works! The harder you pull it back to make the punch, the harder it will hit! Altho, I would make sure you are not about to use this tool on hardened steel as you may loose your point.I have multiples of this very tool!Love it!!

This is a great center punch for precision. The steel is hard, and you can use the other pointy side to make indentations in softer materials or like me abuse it as a punch for punching out pins of hinges.
