Easy to clean— comes with a space to clear out lead that falls off. Heavy, very durable. Worth every cent. Mine is silver. I think it only comes in silver, but I could be wrong.

I've had so many plastic pencil sharpeners, and always had trouble with breaking the tips off of my pencils, especially colored pencils. This one is metal, and impossible to cut yourself (or your child) , very sturdy. My 5 year old could sharpen pencils and crayons by herself without me worrying, and without ruiningb the pencils. Great value!

Beautifully sharpens pencils and colored pencils. I purchased this dual sharpener after our colored pencils broke my expensive mechanical sharpener. Turns out I don't need it - this solid little beast gets the job done. Great value especially for the money. Highly recommend.

I use a pencil sharpener to make tinder for campfires, fire pits, and fireplaces. You can do this in the field by using it on small branches, but it's better and easier to do it at home. Find a relatively straight branch or twig about the size of a pencil, chuck it in a drill, and make some shavings. Keep them in a plastic bag so they stay dry and you'll have all the tinder you need.I did this with an inexpensive plastic pencil sharpener, which worked fine until a twig jammed and broke the plastic body. At that point I decided I wanted something more durable. So far I've used this to make about a shoebox of tinder and it's still working very well. It appears bulletproof. The blades have not dulled and it will reduce a 12" long branch to shavings in less than 20 seconds. I can make enough tinder for a couple of fires in just a few minutes, and I can throw the sharpener into my fire kit just in case I need more in the field. If you use a drill to do this, I suggest a cordless drill with the clutch set pretty low. You don't want the drill twisting the pencil sharpener out of your hand if something jams. Use the straightest sticks you can find because if they're bowed it will try to shake the sharpener out of your hand. If the stick you find is too thin and willowy, break it in half and do each half separately. You probably won't get this tinder burning with a ferro rod or flint, but it will easily light with a match or lighter. A pile of it about the size of your fist is usually enough to get some twigs or other kindling going. Obviously it needs to be dry, so either make it from dry twigs or make it ahead of time and let it dry out someplace warm. The shavings are very thin so they don't retain moisture for long. You can also use these shavings to make a long-burning candle. Drop a handful of shavings in a metal can (an empty and thoroughly washed tuna can works well for this). Melt candles or gulf wax, preferably in a double boiler. Pour the molten wax to just below the top of the can. When lit, this will burn for quite a while, and it will give off enough heat to boil a cup of water. You can substitute the metal can with paper cupcake liners, but you'll have to fill them inside a muffin tin or similar to keep them from collapsing. This is an unconventional use for a pencil sharpener, but it's very effective at making easily-lit, fast burning tinder. If you're a camper or you enjoy a good fire, you can make an almost unlimited amount of tinder for the few dollars that this sharpener costs. It weighs about as much as a disposable lighter, is easy to tuck into your camping pack, and gives you another option for fire making (you can never have too many). I wish I'd found out about this years ago.

Great little sharpener. It seems very durable and well made. I drilled a small hole in it and added a miniature key ring to attach a lanyard so that it wouldn't get lost or buried in the bottom of my tool bag. It would be perfect if it came with a lanyard ring from the factory.

If you are like me, you’ve been through enough of the cheap plastic sharpeners to have bought this one several times over. So just get it and stop wasting $ on the cheaper kinds. Excellent sharpener, not too big and sturdy feel. The only thing that would make this any better would be if it had a case to catch the shavings and keep in my purse without having to worry about getting anything messy. Great purchase though. No more throw aways that stop working after one lipliner for this girl!

Excellent sharpener. I purchased this one exclusively for my makeup. I had tried other expensive sharpeners intended for eyeliner and lip liners, but they just chewed up my product and left sharp painful edges. I remembered I had an old staedtler sharpener in my art supplies, and was delighted to see how well it handled my makeup. I ordered this one as the two sizes accommodate all my makeup sticks, and have been very pleased with how it works. So far it seems to be durable, easy to use, and excellent value.
