How to Use this Stair Tread Gauge and Shelf Scribe Layout Tool?
- Step 1: Pick up whatever you need three length of ruler, Locked knobs & Screw in a staggered position that one mounting hole corresponds to the middle gap of the other.
- Step 2: Fix the Locked knobs & screw.
- Step 3: Pick up the Locked knobs, sliver triangle template (accurate measurements), screw & Gasket (if you need more damping).
- Step 4: Locking the knobs.
- Step 5: Finish!

No matter how hard you tighten the screws on this instrument, the measurement always moves or shifts, making it far too difficult to use. It's made too cheaply. Using this tool is really annoying, but it can be readily fixed by building the bolting system entirely of metal. The end pieces' breadth is insufficient to cover a stair tread's width. The screws are not secure, and the angle varies as you take it up to scribe the piece which results in subpar functionality.

I used this tool to do stairs. The kit includes all the necessary parts as stated. The main issue I had is the blades on the end would not stay tightened to the angle alignment even with tightening the knobs as tight as I could. I had to add some soft rubber washers to create enough friction to hold the blades at the proper angles. I cannot recommend this tool.
