The radio is nicer than I expected. Its loaded with so many features. Its easy to setup. The speaker sound is very clear. I really like the GPS DSC option. There are a few videos online that will help you learn more abut HX890. It feels very well made and good in the hand. One thing it lacks is a way to charge without the cradle. I like the fact it comes with a 12v adapter for the boat but you still need to bring the charging cradle. I'm going to have to order another one and keep it on the boat. Overall I would say its a very nice radio that should last a very longtime.

This is a great product and it came with options I didn’t expect. I couldn’t believe the service and the price was fantastic. I can’t believe that I had the radio in 2 days delivered to my door

My last handheld was made by Cobra. I would get comments from bridge operators that they could not understand me. Finally one said, "Get a new radio." Well, I did. This radio works great. I think there is no need to have FM broadcast function on this. I still can't determine how to get weather broadcasts.

DSC calling requires an FCC license and an MMSI number which is going to require several hours of filling out paperwork and extra $185 fee.

We ride waverunners (jet skis) and its good to be able to look on the compass and know exactly where you friends are.In an emergency they know where you are... dual watch allows you to monitor the distress channel at the same time.Every serious boater should have one of these at the very least.

Was looking for a handheld as a backup and also a solution to have in an emergency. The MMSI ability and built in GPS make it the perfect solution to keep with your emergency equipment. Controls are straight forward and the radio overall is easy to use. Haven't tried the waterproof claims yet...

GREAT radio for boating safety, it will transmit your coordinates when you transmit. BUT You MUST register online with USBoat or others to obtain a "MMSI #" that will identify this radio, YOU and your boat info for YOU when you transmit or use the one touch emergency button and if needed for using in an emergency this radio has all the features that are important, floats, lights up...hope you never need it but if you need it it may be worth its weight in gold. At this price cheap insurance.
