I hoped that SMP quality would be better than this. I bought this to replace a working Duraspark pickup that was at least 40 years old because of a broken plug. I pit this one in and it worked as long as the vacuum advance wasn't connected. I don't know why that would have an effect, but it did. Replaced the cannister and rejetted the carb, but when I put the old pickup back in, the problem went away. Must have had something to do with the advance plate moving. I didn't have time to return it and hope the next one worked, so this became a $30 pigtail. If you take a chance on this, I hope you have better luck.

I gave it 5 stars based on appearance & reputation. I bought it to carry as a spare. While the pickup unit doesn't often fail, it does happen sometime, and I don't like being stranded without a replacement. Standard Motor Products have always worked well for me in the past. This one appears to be well made.

Worked for a month and then jeep started missing and backfiring and wouldn't stay running. Tested everything to figure out the issue. Last resort swapped out the old part and runs like a champ. Woukd return as defective but just missed the cut off date for the return.
