Been using Staples Better Binders for many years and they haven't failed yet. They are D-ring so pages lie flat when you open the cover. Good sturdy opening button and the rings stay closed when flipping through pages big sections at a time. I use the 3 inch regularly, but this monster size is great for really big jobs like archiving school memories. You could use plastic sheet protectors and easily fit samples of work, certificates and report cards from PK right up to Grade 12 all in one 5 inch.

I think these 5" binders are great. They are sturdy and I hope will last the school year. So far so good with no complaints.

It is very large but if you ever put 1000 pages as advertised the back cover bends like rubber. I was so disappointed with it I tossed it in file 13.

Well, the very large version of this binder has been a little disappointing. It's still durable & it probably holds up better than a different brand of the same size. The covers are just a little too flexible. When maneuvering it around when it's really full it kind of moves all over the place. It's holding up so far but it's big & you can just only expect so much. The binding of the binder where the front & back cover attach could be sturdier I think. But, I also have mine really really full. Every page has a page protector & it's just heavy & more difficult to maneuver. But, I bought it for the space to do exactly what I'm doing with it. So far it's working.

They DO hold a ton of paper. However, the super flexible sides, and the fact that one side is longer than the other, make it impossible for them to stand up. I personally would've just preferred harder sides with the easy open function. They're not cheap so even more disappointing. But I'm keeping since I've already filled them up...not doing that again.
