The Smart-Bit PRO PLUG System makes plugging IPE decks fast & easy. Engineered to create a perfect looking & fitting result. Part of a system, the PRO PLUG Plug & Fastener Kit for IPE contains uniquely designed IPE plugs, stainless steel screws, star drive bits and the revolutionary glue nozzle. PRO PLUG IPE plugs have a unique design which combines the best of flared and straightwall designed plugs. The unique chamfer design with reduced flare angle offers easy insertion and an extremely tight fit. As the plug compresses around the top of the hole, it allows for complete insertion of the plug without sawing or chiseling. The revolutionary new PRO PLUG glue nozzle is designed to deposit glue on the sides of the countersink hole where the glue is needed for holding power. Little or no glue is deposited on the bottom of the hole where excess glue can create a hydraulic lock, preventing plug insertion. PRO PLUG glue nozzle works with most waterproof wood glues such as Elmer’s Waterproof Wood Glue or Titebond. The PRO PLUG Tool is used to prepare the decking for the IPE plugs. It creates a screw hole and countersink portion that perfectly matches PRO PLUG plugs. The Smart-Bit PRO PLUG Tool for Wood contains one Smart-Bit Tool, 2 replacement bits, 1 stub bit and an allen wrench. Additional replacement bits may be purchased separately. All you need to get started is a PRO PLUG Tool for Wood and a PRO PLUG Plug & Fastener Kit for IPE along with a bottle of waterproof wood glue and a few simple tools. Used together, the PRO PLUG Tool and PRO PLUG Plug & Fastener System results in a beautiful, high end IPE plugged deck in half the time.

I was somewhat skeptical of being able to drill, screw, and plug ipe decking but....Wow I am conviced it works! I'm not as fast as the demo video but it certainly works. The drill tool cuts the plug to the exact depth required for the screw to be inserted in just one step. The glue nozzle puts just the right amount of glue on the side walls. Then with just one strike with a plastic faced hammer the plug is set. I did find that a little sanding is in order to make the plug flush the surface completely but no more than finish sanding. No more using cutting with a japanese saw then sanding for me!

The system is great but the drill bits are on fire.. Literally. With a 3100 rpm corded drill, we got 30 holes in garappa when it started smoking and left some burn marks on the wood. What you should consider instead is a milescraft drill block, a couple of 1/8th bits, and a couple of 5/16th bits with stop collar. And for fun, an impact driver to drive the screws in.I did have to use a hammer to drive the plugs down a bit and then sand over with an orbital sander to make the deck nice and smooth. It's a great idea but I don't think I would do it again with the deck plugs.

Maybe the best thing is the nozzle.Have not tested the screws, but I would not be surprised if indeed they break easily as other said. The plus are not that great either - very rough, likely made of lower grade ipe. Then it's sort of false advertising - they show the countersink bit, but it's not included

Plugs are decent quality but the stainless steel chosen for the screws is poor. Heads strip out easily and the screws deform under and binding stress.

This product gets 1 star for misleading the buyer by putting a picture of the pre-drilling counterboring tip on the front of the kit box giving the illusion that it included. It is not and you will probably discover this once you are fired up to complete your deck project and discover it is not in your kit and you need to buy it separately. This misleading marketing will delay your project a couple days while you wait for the additional pre-drilling/counterboring tool to be shipped to your house.

Worked well, but bits break easily.
