This is an old StarTech design that just keeps working and working. They do ship a software wizard for some old OSs, but the wizard is completely unnecessary. I plugged my directly into the back of an ancient LaserJet 4, the wall wart into power, and an Ethernet patch cable to my LAN switch. In his review William R Johnston reminds us the device ships with its Ethernet address fixed at 192.168.0.10. To get this set to something different (I'm using a static address set by my DHCP server) I had to temporally plug the print server directly into a PC using an Ethernet crossover cable, then set my PC's address to something in the 192.168.0.* range. Next, I logged in with a web browser, went to TCP/IP configuration, and set the IP address the way I wanted (in my case using DHCP).Then I undid all that temporary network stuff and plugged everything into my LAN, told my DHCP service which IP address to use for the print server (since I want static for that). Finally went back to using the web browser to set the print server's name (with the address I told the DHCP server to use). Everything else just happened and it doesn't seem to matter which OS I try to print from... well, except newer Windows machines. MS has gone too far with the security thing and it's a chore to get anything working on a LAN, beyond connecting to the Internet. Anyway, if not an MS operating system just browser the network and there's your print server. Need the right driver locally installed for the printer you have, but the StarTech print server doesn't seem to need a driver. Print just works. Sweet!Anyway, far easier than setting up an old PC with a parallel port to be a print server. Far less power. It's tiny and fits on the back of your printer. And the only cabling (other than the wall wart) is Ethernet.

I was able to successfully convert my old workhorse HP laserjet 6P printer into a network printer. Not the simplest installation if you’re not familiar with renaming IP addresses (which I was not), but I followed the directions carefully and was successful in installing it on the first Windows 10 laptop. A network setting on the second laptop prevented installation of the printer, but Startech’s knowledgeable and patient tech support walked me through the process. Good product and excellent tech support. When it was time to upgrade my Verizon router, I was concerned that I would have to reprogram the device, but the print server worked flawlessly in connecting to the new router. I don’t know if it was necessary, but I turned off the printer until the router was up and running.

Bought the print server to replace broken HP JetDirect print server that broke. The PM1115P2 works but it was a bit tricky to install. Out of the box the IP address is set to a static address. In order to change that you have to be on the same network. Most routers etc now use the 192.168.2.xxx configuration. This device however is a using the older default of 192.168.0.xxx. My first attempts at installing were done by disconnecting from my network, using a standalone 10/100 switch, setting my IP address to a compatible value in the 192.168.0.xxx range. The installer was not able to see the device. Error 432 was displayed stating that Uninstallshield was running. After looking this up saw this was a common problem and followed some of the suggestions. Here is what finally worked for me on Win10 / home network.1. Disconnected from LAN2. Connected via 5 port 10/100 switch - you can use a crossover cable as well if no switch3. Entered the default IP address as given in the manual in the 192.168.0.xxx range in browser4. Found the setup section - had to look for it - not apparent at first5. Changed the tcp-ip properties to DHCP6. Disconnnected from small switch - attached to LAN switch / router7. Changed address on my computer back to DHCP and refreshed8. It took about 40 minutes for the router to pickup the server - the PM1115P2 is slow - patience9. Rebooted my router just to help it along - during the 40 minute wait10. DHCP in my router identified and assigned an IP address in the 192.168.2.xxx range11. Opened Control Panel - Hardware & Sound - Devices and Printers12. Deleted previous IP port under the printer properties13. Added a new port - standard tcp-ip port14. Left the default at generic network card15. Value default is to get IP address (DHCP)16. Applied and closed17. Printed test page - this is an older printer so communication was slow but worked fine18. Throw away the Startech CD - Startech needs to reconfigure these for DHCP but the software etc. appears to date back to the late 90's. The device works you just have to be patient.

I have 40 years in the IT industry, I had this device for 2 weeks before turning to YouTube to finally get some instructions on set up that actually made this device work. I love it now that it is set up and working. Not something for an amateur to set up.

I had a USB Network Print Server and I hated it. It would constantly get "stupid" and had to be reset with a quick 10 second power off/on. This puppy just plain works for the older OKI centronics printers, forget the USB interface. No BS interface, very simple to configure and share. Have not had to reset it once.

Simple product that works better than expected. I needed to network 10 parallel printers. It cleanly recognized the devices and was able to configure everything I needed to get this humming. static ip, bonjour disable, change the print server name. Etc. Even email alerts. Awesome simple product.
