Works with no problems out of the box. This is PCIe x4 card, so it provides greater transfer rates than other cards, which are PCIe x1. A bonus: there is a SATA power connector on the back of the card, which allows providing extra power to the USB ports.

I bought this card because when I plugged a high-speed hub into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 card I have, I had frequent disconnects. I decided an separate card might solve this problem. I installed this card in a x4 PCIe slot and it worked without issues. I have 4 external drives plugged into the new card, 2 - HDDs in USB 3.1 docks and 2 older MyBook HDDs. My 6TB Seagate Barracuda in the 3.1 dock shows speeds of 250 MB/sec with CrystalDisk Mark, which is twice the speed I got before. Comparing the read/write speeds of the old MyBook drives my speeds increased from 43MB/s to 150 MB/s. I have had no disconnects or drive recognition issues that I had before with the hub. I have been happy with the StarTech products I have and am happy I bought this card. Although I have 4 devices plugged into the card, I only use one at a time. Buyers should be aware the advertised bandwidth of almost all of the cards of this type is a SHARED bandwidth, meaning you might not experience the fastest speed when multiple devices are being used at the same time.

Really simple, plug and and play, has enough power for my x-56 hotas. Haven’t been able to enjoy it for a few months, so feels nice to be back.

The first one I received had a non operational USB-A port on the 2nd controller. All other ports worked fine. I returned it for replacement. The 2nd one had a non operational USB-A port on the 1st controller. I checked to ensure latest drivers were used both times, tried both spare PCIE slots, and tried several different USB devices to make sure it was a card problem.Of note: Neither card was packaged inside an electrostatic bag when I opened the manufacter's packaging. Seems surprising for a PCIE card.

It has been my experience that USB cards like this rarely live up to expectations. But my fairy godmother must have put down her knitting for a moment and waved her magic wand, because this one actually works surprisingly well. To test it out after installation, I used usb 3.1 Gen 2 cables, and Novus usb 3.1 Gen 2 enclosures, with WD Gold drives, and was able to get transfer speeds ranging from 120 up to 180. Not as fast as internal SATA speeds, but way faster than any usb I have worked with. The card is a bit pricy, and requires separate power, but when you can get something that actually does what it is supposed to, then its worth it.

It does what it says, it’s easy to put in and you don’t need to configure anything. The only problem I have is when I use my usb transmitter the range is weak un like when I use that transmitter on my actual usb computer. It’s not so bad
