Internally this is identical to what you find on a 2013-2016 CR-V starter (Mitsuba) with the added benefit that the copper contacts are bigger and thicker. The top post is a little too long so it prevents the dust cap from fitting flush. You can cut it shorter or swap in your original post if you like. Also where the hard plastic conforms to the metal body of the starter, it is slightly different. If you do a dry fit, you can see where you need to grind the plastic down to make it fit flush. You could also re-use your original plastic body, but this requires re-using the copper contact embedded in it and the 2 brushes welded to that contact. With ~135k miles on the starter, my brushes were worn down by ~1/3.Obviously, you are voiding your warranty doing any of this.

So far so good in the few weeks of usage. Seemed robust and looked like OK craftsmanship. I compared the piece to a brand new refurbished starter and took one look at the craftsmanship of the internals and put the refurbished back into its box drove it for a refund. First time I rebuild one and was just flabbergasted at the lack of care and quickly put together reman in comparison to the care and attention to cleanliness I gave my alternator.

My OEM starter is in good shape, just needed brushes. After rebuilding it with this kit, it worked great the first few times, after that it stuck ON. the contacts inside fused together. I'm thinking of pulling it apart again, and put the old contacts back in, they last 195k and still looked okay. I'm just glad I tested it, befor putting the manifold back on. 2006 Element, you get to choose if your going in through the top, or the bottom. I don't have a lift so, Top.
