A great product. It works on algae but on the stringy long slimy algae it didn't. My horses water tank and my goldfish pond are nice and clear, except the one goldfish pond that has the stringy long slimy algae in it.

Ok so I ordered this for my self-filling water bowl for my chickens. we have 48 chickens and a 33 gallon self waterer. We threw it in about a month ago and no algae! Yes in the beginning it did float around the top of the barrel, but after awhile it settled down at the bottom. The chickens don't seem to notice anything about the water quality. The only thing I do is dump the small water bowl out when I let them out in the morning and the new water (from the barrel with the barley) fills the bowl. I refill the barrel when it starts getting low and never really need to wash it out. Before this I was having to dump the 33 gallon barrel every 2 days because the water would be slimy. I will definitely be buying more of these.Update: today is 10/30 this bale is still working! No algae, no built up on the barrel, this is just wonderful product! I built a second waterer, so I'm buying another bale. Thought I would add an update while I'm here. Purchase this, you won't regret it.

I actually cleaned my stock tank, adds fresh water and a brand new bag of this product. I decided to weigh it down because the packaging says you can. After a few days the tank was very green and long strings of algae were growing attached to the burlap. After a week it was worse. I waited two weeks and finally decided that I was not going to allow the horses to drink the water anymore. It's possible that this actually enhanced the algae growth rate in my tank. I took this out, cleaned the tank and filled with fresh water. This product went in the trash though, not back in the tank. After a week there was no visible algae growth. So algae grew faster with the secret than it did without it.
