Early review, just received and will update if anything becomes an issue. Don't be put off by the strange name of the "manufacturer". It's a Matshita drive from Japan, and it works really well. Instant plug-and-play, the computer recognized it straight up. Using Kodi home theater program I've played dvd, blu-ray and assorted media files with no issues whatsoever. I also burned a dvd which plays just fine on my UHD player. Haven't tried burning a blu-ray yet, but will shortly. The USB ports work fine as well. Really, at this point I'm totally satisfied and consider it a good purchase.

After downloading BD softward, I used this player twice, once with a DVD, once with a BD. Both times they played perfectly, with no problems. I plugged it in, the menu appeared, I hit play, and my disc started.The pictures were crisp, subtitiles were clear, and the sound was as good as my speakers allow (which is pretty darn good for a PC).I'm very happy with this purchase, and recommend it.

Using VLC player ( just changed the Region to A ), plays good and working properly ....... I bought 2 differents previously and had to return them because impossible to get them working .

I have not utilized this product as of yet. However, in order to obtain the manual, you must scan a QR code, then transfer the result to your PC, unless you want the manual to be contained on your phone. Once you transfer the resulting QR code to P.C. either by email, or other available method depending upon your configurations, you next are required to follow the link in order to display or download the manual...in the manual you are presented with instructions for downloading a specific software, which is only "free" (shareware) for 30 days. At the conclusion of the 30 days, if you want to continue to use the software, you have to purchase.After following all the steps above, I downloaded the software. Ran it through my server's anti-malware and virus protector, when I then installed it. (Of note here: I hold a PhD in Information Systems Technologies - all my systems are current on all updates, all the time.) Upon finalization of the installation, I was notified by the software that it could not load the "interface" unless I updated JAVA to the next level. (My JAVA scripts are more than advanced, functional and current.)At this point I was frustrated, but not enough to request to send this item back. I conducted further research and learned a new technology is replacing Blu-Ray...I am Okay with this as I wanted the item to act as a backup for audio and video projects, and have not, as of yet, had the opportunity to fully test this product.I do know this, if you only connect the device to a USB port, without connecting it to a USB power adapter (which comes with it), you may not obtain the results you are looking for...and, if it is plugged into a front USB port, as compared to a rear USB port (referring to towers and desktop PC's, not laptops.) you may not have the available power for the device to operate functionally.What I am pointing out here, is that in order to get the device working at its full potential, you have to jump through a lot of hoops, any one of which if not followed correctly, might result in unwanted and undesirable consequences.Upon receipt of the device, unpacking it, the contents looked professional...and sturdy...however, the USB cord for connection to the laptop, desktop, etc., is short, maybe 8" long...and the USB power adapter cord is approximately 14" long...this all means, you will need to be close to a power source and have space right next to your computer to accommodate the device. Also, you cannot use USB extension cords to increase distances from device to power, or device to PC/Apple/UNIX...nor a USB Hub. You are not only greatly limited for options, you in actuality have no options.If I have any reason for the upgrading of the stars on this review, I will.

This unit is highly rated, but it would occasionally power down leaving the ripping software in a buffering mode. I've found that the $50 Dainty drive has worked flawlessly.
