Going in, I had somewhat low expectations from an instrument at this low price point. However, after testing it out on surfaces with known values, the surface resistance meter appears to work perfectly and is accurate right out of the package.

Product seems to work -- contacting a metal surface, shows 10^3 ohm / conductive (the lowest resistance value it can show). Contacting most surfaces either shows 0 or "insulative". Anti-static bags show 10^10 or 10^11 "dissipative". An anti-static work mat showed 10^5 "conductive". Some types of painted surfaces showed 10^9 - 10^11 "dissipative" while other types were insulative. So it certainly seems to appropriately show a range of values that appear reasonable for the types of surfaces I'm testing. I don't have another meter to compare it to for accuracy purposes, so I can't say for certain the readings are fully accurate (maybe it is?). Either way, it appears to do what it's meant for. For $30 I can't ask more than that.

Works as expected to meet the measurements requirments

Upon making initial contact with most surfaces, value jumps between 10e10 and 10e12 before showing an open circuit. This happens even for materials that have a much lower resistance. The only exception is bare metal with near-zero resistance, which shows 10e3. Effectively useless. Calibration doesn’t improve the results.

Wanted to be able to compare and test my "ESD" mats and bags.Works well enough.Found good bags, found bad bags.Found mats that are not conductive as advertised, and found others that are - as advertised.Nice inexpensive reassurance.
