I purchased these items for camping and emergency situations. They are durable, appear sturdy, function effectively, and represent a good value for the money.

I bought these as a gift. Thankfully I brought one out to try before I left for a hunting trip. The very first thing I noticed after adding the lighter fluid, was that the piece of steel that scraped the flint didn't cause a spark the first 5 trys like it was cheap steel. Once it sparked and lit, it burned the wick like they used cheap string as a wick. Also the actual holder was made of plastic. Not worth $1.00 save your money.

Kind of a neat idea but not practical. I did get them to light. getting the right amount of lighter fluid seems to be the key, too much fluid, it wets the flint and no spark, not enough fluid and it burns up the wick pretty fast. Also, as a safety note, I did start the outside of the container on fire a few times while getting it right. It is lighter fluid not gasoline, unless you do something stupid it can be easily blown out. I thought it was different, kind of interesting and for the price what were you expecting?

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought these were flint starts, not fluid based.. thats disappointing, but all my fault for not reading the entire description. Other than that, these are pretty nice, and work great with fluid, you can also use other oils rather than grease. They work well and are a great addition to any prepper backpack, bugout bag, camping supplies, and just plain ol'e lighters. The reason for 4 stars is because it wasn't super clear about needing fluid, and I was looking for dry starts, but that's more on me than them.. they still are amazingly cool lighters!!

I have no other purpose for this other than an emergency or if someone needs to light a candle for a party. It came in a multipack so I can give away the other 3. I always like to have a backup anyways. It has a seal to prevent the lighter fluid from leaking. The lighting of the match took a few tries to learn but it was not hard after watching the video. I had no issue with it leaking or spilling fluid. You only put enough fluid to go up 2/3 full or you will have too much inside. For the price, it is a good value. For the design, it is unobtrusive and small enough for a pocket. It is lightweight and feels durable.

The tiny thumbscrews are difficult to tighten and loosen. A larger knob would really help. On several occasions, I had to use pliers to unscrew the match, and I was careful not to cross-thread any of them. Speaking of which, a couple of them were very difficult to keep from cross-threading. At almost every attempt to screw them in straight, they would suddenly cant and try to go in at an angle. I tried turning them backwards (in the unscrewing direction) to feel for the threads to align, but I couldn't feel it. Finally, most egregious, is that two of the 5 containers leak. One leaks so fast that I can't get it filled fast enough to see the fluid pooled in the bottom of the canister, much less to the midpoint as the instructions indicate. The other leaks more slowly, and I didn't realize it at first. I filled the container according to the instructions, wiped up what I thought must be spillage, and started to break-in the flint. On the 3rd or 4th strike, the match lit, but so did the bottom of the canister. It began to burn my hand. After I extinguished the flame, I held the canister high and watched as fuel slowly pooled and dripped from the bottom. So, after this experience, I decided that these are unreliable garbage and a safety hazard. I proceeded to process a return, and to my surprise, they wanted me to ship them back even though I have already poured fluid in them. I'm not 100% on laws about shipping flammable liquids, but I'm pretty sure that I can't ship anything that is leaking fuel. I guess the set was cheap enough that I can throw the leaking ones away and hope that the other ones don't fail, but I don't have much faith in that idea. I'll probably find another brand that works as advertised and get rid of all 5 of these. The savings isn't worth the burns.
