It measures and retracts and does what its intended and for like half the price of others. Kinda cheaply made plastic but it works!!

Bought four of them the market football field two of them. The tape broke on the first use. I am returning them and buying a better brand.

I Had the tape measure for less then a month and the handle fell off and the tape started ripping
