About this item

  • 1.[FIRE MADE EASY] With our carefully selected hard pine spindle and soft paulownia fire board, this bow drill fire starting kit can provide a really easy, fun and confident fire starting experience. Beginners may need a few attempts to produce an ember, while experts can start a fire in less than 30 seconds with this tool.
  • 2.[PERFECT EDUCATIONAL TOOL] This bow drill kit is a perfect tool for teaching kids or training Boy Scouts the principles of friction fire and a great gift for them to practice their survival skills. Building a fire easily can open up the whole world of friction fire starting for the child or youngster you are trying to teach.
  • 3.[SET UP AND READY] The handle and spindle are pre-assembled with parachute cord, the bearing is secured with the cap, and the product is ready to use the moment you open the box. It also comes with an instruction book with pictures and details that will help you start your first friction fire.
  • 4.[DURABLE DESIGN AND MATERIAL] The spindle is capable of dozens of fires. The fireboard has ten pre-made divots and notches, and it has an additional area for you to cut more divot and notches to your style, and the ball bearing spins smoothly under heavy pressure.
  • 5.[DON'T GIVE UP IF YOU FAIL] Creating fire through friction requires skill, physical ability, knowledge and environmental conditions. So keep trying until you understand how much pressure you should apply, how fast you should drill, until your arms are sore, until your clothes smell like smoked bacon, then you will have mastered the art of making fire by friction.

It's not as easy as the video shows, but it works if you keep at it. Nice, even strokes, consistent pressure.

If you want to learn the bowdrill fire method. Start with this. I tried forever and could not get a coal till i ran across this kit. I learned the right pressure and speed etc. The softer wood made it much easier in the beginning. Now 3 years later i can get coals on many different woods. Than you to whoever came up with this kit.

fireboard broke with very little pressure on it. cord also of poor quality and wore out quickly. Having said that, it does work, and comes with a bearing not only for the block, but also for one additional block you can make yourself. Not bad for a first-timer, but also not as good as the simpler yucca wood BSA kit.

I needed these for my brothers who are into the outdoors. Something more primitive than matches or a lighter, yet handy enough to produce a fire without too much toil.

This arrived fairly quickly and was packaged very well. The hearth, bow, cord, and pressure applicator are fine and the package included two spare bearings for the applicator, which is excellent and was not expected. Now onto the negative side that completely ruins the product. The spindle is made of pine wood, just like the hearth is. While this is still functional, it takes much longer to produce a coal or even smoke when trying to get a friction fire. A maple or oak dowel would only slightly increase the cost, but would take half as long to get fire going. While it's easy enough to swap out a spindle, it's not something a customer should have to do just to have a practical tool

Never got it work for me. Made a heckuvalotta smoke, for sure. Could never get an ember. Drills right through the board. And eventually the board snapped in half and ... awkward, cumbersome, no joy.Otherhand? Didn't cost much. Would have been delightful had it worked, but... not out much.

It works so well. I tested it in the house to see if it was any good and filled the room with smoke without much effort.

There are no instructions with this kit. Just 2 sticks, some cord, a wood plank, and some fibre to help start. Unfortunately no instructions on how to do it. Will be asking for a refund
