I bought this on a whim, just to see how it would perform. It's really good. I can monitor the level of chalk in the reservoir. Also, the recoil button makes retrieving the line so much easier.

It seems to be made of easy to break plastic. Time will tell.First few lines were really sharp, the self winding is really great. But after 3 lines, chalk started flying out of the nozzle all over the place. Now, I have to unwind it away from the surface I care to layout onto. Its a bit disappointing. This defeat the advantage of one-handed use.

Interesting construction. Retracted very well when it was empty :) . When I filled it with chalk (not overfilled) it sometimes needs help with my fingers to start retracting. Be aware that the spring range is shorter than the included line length: if you want to use all of the line you have to make additional manipulations to release and then retract the line. I like the simpler "Tajima CR301JF Chalk-Rite Jam Free Chalk Snap Line Box" more in this respect.

i purchased the auto rewind along with a regular snap line, i thought the auto rewind could be a useful feature. long and short after playing with it for a while dry there is no need to put chalk in it as i will never use it.they advertise 30 or 32 feet of line but to get past 24' you need to unwind the spring then rewind the spring to get the line to auto retract, then it acured to me that like my tape measure when rewinding i put some finger pressure on the tape to stop it from "slamming" into the case - if i do that with a chalk line i will have a mess. i think the clear case and steel mixing ball might be a good idea but i will never know for sure

The line broke and we tried everything as we got 2 and spent almost $100 total. The only way to get the top rubber piece off is to break the entire thing.
