This lens covers a broad focal length range from 28mm wide-angle to 300mm telephoto with superior imaging performance. It achieves a zoom ratio of 10.7x with a length of just 126mm (5") and a weight of only 610g (21.5oz). The lens is equipped with the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, enabling it to focus quickly and accurately throughout the entire zoom range. The image quality of this lens is exceptionally very sharp, even when you zoom in to 2x or 3x of the original picture, you still see a fantastic very clear image. This Tamron 28-300mm has become the best Tamron lens I ever owned. Thanks to Tamron's continuing effort and technical improvements.

I returned this lens as defective but the company tells me everything is working as they expect it to, so I will lay out the problems I encountered. Just to note: My experience is with the Sony A7ii so it is possible some of this is a compatibility issue with this model. However, I would expect the company has done enough testing to resolve such issues. I own a Sony SEL24240 so I am very familiar with the limits of superzoom lenses.1 – The zoom barrel is so loose that it creeps at even a slight downward angle. I can understand a lens creeping when carried pointing strait down, but having the zoom move during regular use make this lens almost impossible to use. The zoom lock only works with the lens fully retracted so this is only good for transporting the lens.2 – The autofocus is slow, jerky and noisy compared to any of the older lenses I have, including the Sony SEL24240.3 – Auto focus does not stay locked on, even in AFS setting. With autofocus set to continuous, the lens is hunting even when the subject fills most of the frame.4 – Image stabilization does not seem to work at all and the lens behaves as though in-body stabilization in my Sony A7ii is switched off. This is most apparent using focus assist, where the magnified image is jumping all around.5 – The images are not great compared to the SEL 24240. The corners are soft at pretty much all zoom lengths and aperture settings.
