About this item

  • Acrylic Tape: this sealing tape is manufactured with an impact-resistant backing that ensures protection of surfaces against abrasion, wear, marks, or scratches
  • Squeak Reduction: adhering suitably to metallic or plastic surfaces, the heavy-duty tape helps minimize squeaking and rattling caused from vibration or wear. The thin tape forms a “slip plane” effect that ensures frictionless contact
  • Applications: this high-tack tape can be reliably used on the surfaces of painted metallic and plastic materials — ideal to be used at manufacturing, distribution, and automotive industries. The film tape is resistant to abrasion
  • Longevity: the sealing tape does not let ink, adhesive, or other tacky substances stick to its surface. The self-lubricating tape lasts longer than PTFE tapes in sliding applications
  • 3M Preferred Converter: TapeCase is a 3M Preferred Converter; 3M has partnered with TapeCase to make their products available in a larger assortment of sizes, so that customers can use the tape in a variety of applications.

TapeCase 423-5 UHMW Acrylic Sealing Tape is a self-lubricating adhesive, which is compatible with painted metals as well as plastics. The high-tack adhesive tape can be effectively used in controlling squeaks and rattles that are caused due to vibration or friction of metallic or plastic materials. The thin acrylic tape is low maintenance yet more durable than PTFE tapes. It can be a preferred choice in automotive, manufacturing, and distribution industries. The durable tape can be used in automotive panels as well as interiors and for protecting containers from wearing or getting damaged.

Bare drawer slides can get hard to move over time, especially with old wood drawers. I was looking for a way to improve the slides of my dresser without needing to go through woodworking to add metal extend slides...This tape works incredibly. It works much better than I anticipated. It is buttery smooth, and even feels better than those basic, white, bottom mount, drawer slide tracks. While putting the tape on the bottom of the drawer, or on the furniture surface, can be enough for the gliding, I think it is better to double up and put it on the drawer and the furniture frame. The tape is thick. It doesn't seem like it shall wear away easily - and doubling up should help reduce wearing. The tape is not easy to puncture, but I would make sure the surfaces are as flat and smooth as possible, even if this involves a little sanding. When applying to the drawer bottom, make sure to cut the excess away with a sharp utility knife. Do not fold it. The tape surface is strong enough that it can unfold a crease. Just leave it flat. The glue does seem adequate to hold the tape onto a clean surface.

I have a few vintage drawer units in my workshop that have no rails under the drawers. The wood-on-wood sliding of the drawers makes an awful squealing noise, and the drawers are difficult to pull out, especially on humid days. After putting this tape down where the drawers make contact and slide across the wood, it's so much better! It's never going to be as smooth as a drawer with a rolling mechanism, but the ear-piercing squeaks are gone, and the drawers are much easier to pull out.

Very pleased with tape, especially for adhesion to rod and immediate results. I had been struggling with curtain rings that would get caught up on the rod. I did a search on Amazon and am very happy I chose TapeCase to address the issues I was having with my curtain rod.The application was so simple and the impact was immediate.I’ve been using the tape for round about one month and it is still outstanding; no degradation or issues with the product.Highly recommend

Love this stuff. I have several wood antique pieces of furniture and antique reproductions that are solid wood. The quality of solid wood furniture is great but the wood-on-wood drawer mechanisms can be a bit meh. I took the drawers out, flipped them and measured the width of the ends. I ordered that width tape in the largest size (which is definitely not "108 ft" as listed in the description - more like 108"- I measured the tape after I applied the entire roll and it was about 16'). This size did three strips on each of 4 drawers. I used a strip on each end and one down the middle that rides along a wooden track. The result was exactly what I was looking for. I took the coefficient of friction from something very high (seemed like sandpaper to me) to something like a kid's slip-in-slide. Yay.The tape is easy to use. You peel off the paper on the sticky side, apply and you are done. It is very thin and virtually invisible. I had to catch the light just right to get a sheen in the attached photo. When looking down at the drawer after application, I really couldn't see any difference.**** UPDATE 2020 ****After two years, I needed to replace the tape. The problem was that the adhesive was being pushed out of the sides of the tape and it is sticky (see image of residue beyond side of tape when I pulled it up). When you are trying to reduce friction, anything sticky is not ideal. For this reason, I'm taking my review down to 4 stars. This may be specific to my situation. I have heavy drawers and I initially bought narrow tape and applied it to the bottom of the drawer. Therefore the full weight of the drawer was always resting on a narrow 1/4" strip of tape. This is probably why some of the adhesive was pushed out from the sides. So two years later, I had to peel off the tape. It didn't damage any of the wood but I needed to use some Goo-Gone to clean up the sticky residue.I reapplied wider tape to the drawer supports inside of the cabinet instead of using narrow tape on the bottom of the drawer. The drawers glide like butter again which is great. Hopefully, the adhesive leakage from the sides won't happen again. My recommendation is to get the widest possible tape and apply it to the widest portion of the drawer. In other words, if what supports the drawer inside of your cabinet are 1/2" but the drawer bottoms are 1/4", get the 1/2" and apply it to the inside supports.*** Update 2021 ***After over a year of use of the wider tape on the inside supports of the drawers, I've had no issues of adhesive leakage that I had using the narrower tape. All 4 drawers continue to slide without friction. I'm pretty sure my prior experience with the narrower tape was due to heavy drawers resting on the tape and pushing a bit of adhesive beyond the tape. It doesn't take much adhesive beyond the tape to adversely affect the glide performance. If this does happen to a small extent in your application, before you remove the tape, you can try a bit of Goo Gone Adhesive Remover (sold on Amazon) on a paper towel. That takes the adhesive off quickly and it didn't stain or otherwise effect my solid mahogany wood inside my furniture.

Inaccurate width in description. Ordered the 0.375" wide tape for a project. Tape was larger than 0.5" wide. Seems sticky enough, just watch out if you need it for a very specific application.

I use this UHMW tape on the inside of 2-inch olympic barbell weight plates and it makes the weights slide on the barbell sleeve like butter. Prior to doing this, it was very loud whenever putting the plates on the barbell, or taking them off. Now it is basically silent. It works nicely on both smooth and ridged sleeves. This works best on plates that aren't too tight fitting, as the uhmw tape still adds a thin layer.

Use it on drawers, just put a small piece over sliding points of contact, and they will never feel the same

The most recent trend in custom keyboards has been flex cuts on the PCB, basically having pre-designed cuts to make a keyboard PCB flex locally. While this flex is kind of hit or miss, where some flex cuts don't lead to any extra flex, it has lead to keyboards sounding thinner and one loses the full sound of the switches they install. This tape is great for helping that where it covers up the flex cut, re-enabling the full sound of the switch again. Along with that, it has high stickiness that allows it to remain on the PCB long term, as well as being flexible enough to not impede whatever gains the flex cut provides.
