TDK was the go to tape back in the 80s when cassettes were all the rage. Type 2 tapes were always more expensive than the type 1 because of low noise and you used them for recording on a 4 track recorder then transferred the finished mix to a type 1. They still are great tapes but man !! Almost $20 a tape ! Crazy . I bought a 5 pack of type 1 tapes for $12 which is not bad considering it has been 40 yrs since I bought them. Still great tapes !!

This tape is really high quality and i love the J card aesthetic. I record almost all of my tapes using DDi codec on windows to encode DNR for use in my car stereo and this tape almost dosen't need DNR to sound good. Overall 9/10 just because its pricey.

wow ! I have to agree with all the great reviews about the quality of this tape. The performance of this tape is near perfect, plus it's beautifully made and the mechanism is superb., very quiet during rewind or fast forward. The only tape that can out perform this is metal but not by much. You get the best of both worlds with this tape; great performance together with a solid build. Now I see why they cost so much, but if you can afford it, it is a great investment. TDK rules!

TDK SA 90 competes with Maxell XLII 90. The recording quality of both is excellent. The mechanism in the TDK SA 90 is superior to the one in the Maxell. The Maxell mechanism has too much drag, which negatively affects the consistency of recordings made on Class A cassette decks. For years, l had routinely purchased a five-pack of SA 90 tapes at about the same price as a five-pack of the Maxell. The price of SA 90 has recently increased to an extraordinary high level. The Maxell XLII 90 five-pack is currently priced at $13.20 on Amazon, but the Amazon price for TDK SA 90 is $4.95 PER TAPE, which is $24.75 for five tapes. Amazon's vendor for TDK SA 90 is Burlington AV Recordings of Oceanside NY.
