I have over three hundred cassette tapes sitting in a drawer, and have not been able to play them because I could not fine a decent quality unit. My friend writes me and says how about this one, with a link.I used to own a TEAC reel-to-reel, and purchased it. After I plugged it in and hooked it up, suddenly there were all the tapes sounding exactly like the day I recorded them, bright, brilliant, crisp. It's a dual deck, and is not auto-reverse, nor does it switch from one deck to the other deck at the end of a tape. But having that sound quality is worth having to get up and push another button. One other thing, they say 90 minute tapes are not recommended, but I have all 90 minute tapes and have not encountered a problem. No regrets!

The options for decks are limited. And this is as good an option as any. It’s breathed new life into tapes which haven’t turned in decades. Good, warm, open soundstage with the right brightness. Sure I paired it with upgraded cables and a quality amp which certainly helps. I’d go as far as saying that it rivals my Marantz CD player in sound quality. I could be biased as I never warmed to the metallic sound of discs…I remember reading somewhere that there’s no auto stop option - I could be wrong (?) but play certainly stops at the end. There’s no auto reverse function though. It’s a smart looking deck too with digital counter et al. I haven’t utilised all functions such as recording etc - this review is about playback and sound mostly: as such, it does a fine job. I’m now trawling the interwebs for more cassettes!

It's early yet to see if this unit will have any longevity without issues, but when I got everything all hooked-up to the system I was surprised at the fidelity. Reviews have been mixed pro and con, maybe I got a good one?I have many tapes all recorded on an old Nakamichi that keeps going to the shop for more repairs being 30 years old. This Teac W-1200 has a year warranty on parts, 90 days labor, save the box in case. If it blows-up within 2 months I can return for a exchange or refund.Watched a YouTube video of a fellow doing some testing on the published specs and it turned out to be better than factory.Have 6 hours on it so far and sounds as good as the Nakamichi, maybe better.C 90s have been working good.

Too small control writing. Good sound. Looks are great and very smooth. Little noise.

I found vintage / used tape decks to be costly to repair. I’m very pleased to have this new deck. The noise reduction makes the hsss close to none existent during play back. Both a&b decks can record. Nothing flimsy. The buttons are electric not demanding the pressure from the figure to lock the controls and the doors are solid and tapes slide in easily.

When the Teac actually plays a tape correctly it can sound pretty good. However, there was a noticeable difference in speed and wow and flutter between the two players on the deck. I might have been willing to put up with some of it's faults if it hadn't ate up several of my tapes, and ruined them. I think putting better belts on the unit could improve the performance but I opted to save my money and bought a 2nd hand Pioneer deck, which plays great btw and has not ate up and ruined a single tape yet. I think Teac has some work to do. They need to go back and look at what made their decks so good in the 90s.However, I will say the noise reduction works very well and I thought it was as good as Dolby at reducing noise. I also think mechanical response was good but I could not get it to turn off when it ate a tape without unplugging the unit. The deck is way too pricey to be this glitchy in my opinion. I heard a rumor that some higher end decks are coming out and I might splurge and try one but we'll see.One final note is to say that my negative review is only about the Teac itself. The distributor, Listen Up, was great to deal with. They shipped promptly and just as promptly refunded my money when they received the unit back. I would definitely do business with them again should the need arise.

I've been an audiophile for 50 years. Waaaay back then you could get a really decent cassette deck if you wanted one. Today.....not so much. Try your Wal-Mart. Betcha it won't have anything for cassette. This is a great dual deck stereo cassette. Both sides record. Dubbing is simple. You can make dual recordings from line in or microphone. You can mix mic and line in and record it. Manual volume recording, digital counters with return to zero. The left unit allows -12% to +12% speed control. I wonder how truly useful it is but, hey, there it is. The flurescent display has brightness adjustment. It's really nice.

Teac has a good reputation for its tape decks and I was pleased to see that Teac are once again producing a good quality cassette player and recorder. This dual cassette deck works great for recording from my old cassettes onto new ones preserving some radio programs I recorded 35 years ago. I popped in a pre-recorded tape of the Clash I’ve had for ages and the sound quality was very good. Very happy with this unit.

This tape deck was easy to connect and the sound quality is great. I would have given it 5 stars but I discovered that the remote control has no ability to turn it on or off. It has a manual power switch that has to be used, unless you want to leave it on all the time. I looked at buying a refurbished deck as cassette players are extremely difficult to get nowadays. I read many reviews and ultimately decided on this TEAC deck as the reviews were fairly good. It allows me to utilize the collection of cassette tapes that I have been holding onto for the past 45 years and as far as price goes, it was a midrange device. Let’s hope it lasts for a few years!
