Having bought the original OP-1 and being somewhat disappointed in the sound quality and low volume, I was curious about this OP-1 Field. I decided to go ahead and buy it since I knew I could return it if I didn't like it. I bought it feeling like there was a 70% chance I'd be returning it. That price tag was a tough hurdle for me to accept...but, I bought it anyway. VERDICT: Wow! I'm keeping it! I love the sound quality and the volume is much louder. The biggest reason for my keeping it is this: It had me creating music right away with its inspiring quality and workflow! I have many full size workstations - but THIS IS THE MOST FUN OF THEM ALL! I love it so much that the price tag doesn't bother me anymore. Sure, cheaper would've been way better...but it's just not...and life goes on. The satisfaction this OP-1 Field gives me makes the price worth it for me. It samples beautifully! This is everything the original OP-1 should have been. I've already sold my original OP-1 on ebay and feel really great about owning this Field. It's sitting on a table about 2 feet away from me and it's calling me right now. It's beckoning me to create something. The original OP-1 never did that. It just sat around bothering me because it fell short of my expectations. For those that can handle the price tag, I don't think you'll be disappointed. For those that think they want the original OP-1...you don't! Just keep saving and get this one!!! I highly recommend it!

is expensive. is amazing.everything you can do with this toy you can do it with a daw and midi controller BUT is not as fun as using this.is portable, easy and unpredictable in a good way.the fact that i refer to this as "a toy" is because i love it and using it feels like playing.

TLDR; If you already own an OG OP-1, the differences between them may not be worth shelling out for the Field. If you don't already an OG OP-1, get the Field. My original review for the OG OP-1 is below; this review will focus on the Field, and the differences between the Field and the OG OP-1.https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1HC3HSP4CVF9L/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00CXSJUZS

I’m not gonna lie, using it can be inspiring because it’s kind of like a game, it’s well constructed, and it’s extremely portable with a long battery life. But there are no features that this has that justify a $2000 price tag. Honestly, I would probably have kept it if it were $1200 or less, but even that would be too high. The workflow is cryptic, and mistakes are incredibly frustrating because there’s no clear way to get back to where you were. Backups are a chore. I’m sure some people know how to use this very well, but I’ll stick with my Elektron boxes, thank you.

So I was so excited about this. I’m new to music production. I found the learning curve to be easy but you hit a quick threshold of what it can do.I shifted after a week or two and downloaded a DAW Abelton and immediately was like woah this is way better. I was like ok well at least I could use the op-1 as a midi with it. Nope. It doesn’t work. I tried a zillion ways to get it to work even asked support and it’s just not compatible. So yeah my conclusion is if you don’t mind spending the money it’s a fun toy. But for actually making quality music it’s just not the device.

Once you get really familiar with the interface, making music on this thing is so fun! Tons of parameters to adjust make me rethink the way I was making music before. In a great way!

This thing just has the esthetics and that's all, the competition like Akai and novation have much better products and for a lot cheaper, so don't get fooled by this toy, it won't serve you any purpose whatsoever, it is literally just an "expensive toy". Please do not buy this thing, you'll regret it!!!

everyone goes on and on about the price and the lack of stuff its able to do for them? who are you and what do you actually want? its amazing, the amount of things you can do in a such a small package is incredible and the learning curve is very small. I Love it and I'm not a TE fanatic at all. Portable, capable and outright funif you want to go on about price I feel like paid 175 too much if it was 1500 it would be perfect through and through

As an old op-1 OG user I love all updates, new tape modes, velocity keyboard works pretty fine, the quality of most parts is better. My opinion — worth it.
