The larger cone on this center allows me to center up on pipe much easier than the smaller CNC center did. The both work well on solid bar stock.

Bought this live center for my mini lathe. Looks well made and fits great and great price. I like the large diameter taper enabling me to hold pipe up to around 2†ID. However, the internal thrust bearing has a defect. As I rotate the head by hand with some hand pressure I feel and hear a defect in the bearing. It clicks with a felt “clunk†in the same place each rotation. It might just be machining debris in the bearing but as there’s no way to disassemble and clean, it will eventually destroy the bearing - making the tool useless. I will return for replacement.Update: I did return this item and ordered a replacement. The replacement item works as it should. The bearing is as smooth as butter.I must say, Amazon makes it very easy to return items. Just drop it off at local UPs store. They scan the code Amazon sends to you phone. It’s done!!! Incredible!!

Heavy live centre so I feel confident putting a good amount of pressure on at the wood lathe, proper size delivered. Looks well machined, however it is not serviceable (no way to grease the bearings unless you manage to crack it open.) I didn’t have the issue with the high pitch noise like another reviewer.EDIT: you’ll get a high pitch sound from friction at the tip against hardwood if you’re not applying enough pressure. Still haven’t figured out how to open it to apply grease. Some slight heat after 20 mins at high speed, not too bad, could be smoother and spin more easily.
