The 'HC595 devices contain an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register that feeds an 8-bit D-type storage register. The storage register has parallel 3-state outputs. Separate clocks are provided for both the shift and storage register. The shift register has a direct overriding clear (srclr) input, serial (SER) input, and serial outputs for cascading. When the output-enable (OE) input is high, the outputs are in the high-impedance state. Both the shift register clock (Silk) and storage register clock (rclk) are positive-edge triggered. If both clocks are connected together, the shift register always is one clock pulse ahead of the storage register.

These shift registers work as advertised. I am able to connect two of these in a series to expand my ports to 16.Pros:* Reliable with decent build* CheapCons:* A little bit challengjng to setup and comprehend how to utilize the shifting process. I'd suggest reading a lot and trying it out.* You might prefer an MCP23017 instead.

These work as expected.Note to implementation: I did run into RF interference with these on a breadboard. Long loops of cable on the breadboard acted as an antenna. To solve this problem i recut all my breadboard wires so they lay flat on the breadboard and that solved the problem.

Basic shift register, very simple. Now shipped in a plastic tube to protect the pins. Mine arrived in good condition.

The chips shipped in a little bag and not pressed into foam or anything so some of the pins were pretty bent. I was able to bend them back into shape just fine though some of the pins feel a little loose now. I haven't tested them yet but they all look in good shape otherwise. Would highly recommend the seller ship them pressed into foam to preserve the pins.

Preform as advertised and ship very fast. I burnt out my last one (my fault not the chip) when setting up a new circuit and I needed a replacement fast.
