About this item

  • Phosphorus-free fertilizer blend with fine particle size that includes humic acid, which helps increase turf quality and reduce nutrient requirements
  • Contains MUtech coated slow release nitrogen to provide uniform growth and extended feeding
  • DG particles do not rely on a physical coating to release nutrients. Coated fertilizers (used by our competitors) are very susceptible to damage from mowers, resulting in premature nutrient release.
  • Small particle size gives you twice the number of particles per square foot. DG particle disperse quickly and completely when watered, moving directly into the soil.
  • Not for sale in California or Oregon

Product Description

The Andersons PGF Complete 16-4-8 Fertilizer with Humic DG

Professional-Grade Fertilizer

PGF (Professional Grade Fertilizer) Complete 16-4-8 takes all the research, top products, and necessary nutrients, and combines them into one bag. Unless a soil test shows that you need a nutrient adjustment, most experts and studies say the same thing: apply a 4-1-2 ratio fertilizer for the best results as a regular maintenance application. PGF Complete 16-4-8 is formulated with that 4-1-2 ratio (16-4-8) and is also high in iron and other micronutrients. The results are fast, and you can expect a rich, green lawn in 6-14 days with proper irrigation or rainfall. In addition to the quick green-up PGF Complete 16-4-8 provides, the product is formulated with a large amount of slow-release nitrogen, which allows for continual feeding for up to 8 weeks. PGF Complete 16-4-8 also contains Humic DG. Humic acid is an organic, carbon-based compound that helps enrich your soil and allows plants to better process nutrients.

Application

Applying PGF Complete 16-4-8

For best results:

  • Mow before applying
  • Apply to dry foliage
  • Water in after application with a minimum of 0.2 inches
  • Do not collect clippings for at least one mowing following application to avoid particle pick-up.

For summer applications on cool-season grasses, apply at 50-75% of the normal rate. When applying on centipede lawns, apply at 50% of the normal rate. PGF Complete can be applied every 6 to 8 weeks during the growing season.

Iv tried many different fertilizers this ranks at the top for quality of nutrients, ease of application, and ability to green my lawn for at least a month. Having said that it ranks the worst in value. nearly $100 for a 40lb bag is absurd. other good fertilizers iv tried that green my lawn well are propeat 13-5-8 and the famous milorganite but i hate my yard smelling like a sewer for a month whenever ived used it. I may try supersod's 16-4-8 fertilizer next since it is only $38 for a 50lb bag local pickup.

I first started off in my lawn journey a few years back. When I purchased my home, my lawn was 99% weeds and dirt patches. I threw some Home Depot fertilizer and wow green! Then I realized it was all weeds :(. so I bought generic weed spray killer and planted seeds (that grew 5% of what I put down). Some weeds died , some lived over the next couple of years and and then started to come back and kill grass. 3 years later (this year) I put down a pre-emergent for the first time super heavy in the winter. Come around may I got down to about 5% weeds if that. But, the grass was brown, dry, and struggling during the growing season. I was not going to settle for paying for lawn care company when I put my hard work and tons of sweat in the Atlanta heat into it. Bags and bags of seeds, tons of weed killer, milorganite, lime, even paid for a soil test(didn’t come back anything alarming). Something about doing it yourself vs. like trugreen feels so much better when you reach your goal. So I took to YouTube, found Doc’s videos, figured I’d give this product a try. I aerated my lawn (with the manual tool after about an hour of rain, took about an hour it was a workout!). And threw this down at the bag rate. Watered it for a week by hand , and got a week of rain. I could see the grass grow during this period like wildflower, and green up every day. It’s like it activated 3 years of seeds that natural fertilizer/ box store spray fertilizer couldn’t do. So happy 14 days later, I didn’t expect these results. Next I’ll try the humichar like doc said in about a week to improve the soil. I’m ready for my buddies to come over so I can show off my green and tell them the secret sauce. Will be using at LEAST 2-3 times through the warm months to continue to improve lawn. I still have a few patches where I can see grass currently spreading into and turning into a full lawn. My wife will be upset that I’m spending so much time outside taking in my new view! Good luck

I'm never buying anything else! This stuff worked great on my newly overseeded tall Fescue lawn. It's really safe to use because of the low level of nutrients.

First year changing from Milorganite.....Have already spread over 3 acres once, waiting on my next shipment. This stuff spreads super easy and I am glad they increased the size of bags. We only had one issue and it is when my daughter had her basketball team over, it is good for PGF and bad.....maybe. I decided to use the spreading of fertilizer as conditioning drill, which seemed like a win/win. All the girls did well until it got to KOBI. Kobi started sprinting with the spreader and I was attempting to get her to slow down. By the time I got to her to explain why I needed an even spread on my beautiful lawn, she slipped in a giant St. Bernard turd. Unfortunately she was wearing her basketball shoes for some reason so they got ruined....but that is not the worst part. When she fell she went forward and landed face first in the spreader with all the fertilizer. Which would not have been a problem but Kobi is the most out of shape person on the team and when she began sprinting with the spreader she immediately broke out in a sweat. The PGF fertilizer stuck to her face and when she looked up it looked like a young version of the bearded lady from the carnival. After I quit laughing, I attempted to help her wash off her face. Well actually I asked her to pick up all the fertilizer she spilled first because this stuff is not cheap. Then we washed off her face but she screamed and screamed. I thought it was because of her prepubescent acne face. However, I now believe it was because PGF started to work instantly, with the moisture on her face. That was late February and her mother just called me in April and stated her daughter is growing a full beard and mustache. It was unfortunate because we had a basketball tournament and they would not let her play because they did not believe she was a girl. The hair on her face is thick and rich, which makes me think this is a great product. But you might want to keep it away from the Kobi's of the world.

I've used a number of recommended products before (Milorganite, Yard Mastery, Ringer and other store bought ones) but nothing gave me the growth and healthy grass (Bermuda & St. Aug) like Andersons. I used one app of the fert, one of the humic, and then later the green iron fert, and I have one of the lushest and greenest lawns in my HOA. Not the best - still some patches to fill in and leveling needed, but people stop and look regularly. No brown or burning patches like other lawns. The Bermuda grows very fast and goes to seed so I have to stay on top of the mowing more, but the fertilizer has really helped fill in several dead spots and brown patches that have stuck around for a few years now. Weeds are fighting to get in, but the grass is thick and lush, crowding out almost all weeds and other growth. I love this product and the others from Anderson. Great stuff
