OVERVIEW: I'm 6'1" tall, and I use a Stihl FS91R trimmer. Prior to purchasing the "Darwin's Grip" handle, I had moved the D-handle all the way up, right next to the strap holder (after I'd cut away and discarded the plastic hand grip thing that came with 91R). Still, I found myself bending over more than I wished. So I went in search of a solution, and I found the "Darwin's Grip." I do a fair bit of string trimming per week: 10+ hours every week on a hilly, rock-strewn property in West Virginia.SUMMARY: after about six hours of mowing with the Darwin's Grip, I find it is definitely what it advertises to be: a way to remain standing more upright as I use the trimmer. It is definitely a positive addition to my FS91R. I rate this a 5-star product.INSTALLATION: not that challenging. I heeded the advice to avoid over-tightening the hex bolts. I snugged them down, but I did not crank hard on the bolts. It wasn't necessary: snugged down is all that's needed to hold the thing in place.POSITIONING: as others have noted, this will take some fiddling with to get it right for your preferences. For example, the pictures showed the handle on top of the trimmer shaft, at the "12 o'clock" position relative to shaft as you hold the trimmer. I found it more comfortable on my left arm (I'm right handed: I trigger with right and use my left on the handle) to rotate the whole assembly to the left so the handle is at about the 10:30 or 11 o'clock position. Just that little bit helped quite a bit. Expect the initial install to be an approximation, with fine-tuning of position to follow. Also, some "muscle memory" my need to be re-learned to use the new handle naturally. For me that took about an hour.QUALITY/WEIGHT: the whole assembly is very light weight, and I don't notice any difference with my FS91R (14lb machine) with this installed. It seems fairly sturdy, but I would not jerk on the handle, nor push down on it hard. With just normal pressures to control the trimmer this should be just fine. As others have noted, the weak spot in this is the toothed-swivel that allows adjustment of the handle up/down from the trimmer shaft. Again, normal pressures and it'll be fine; aggressive jerking, or pushing down hard would be a problem.VALUE FOR MONEY: the item is $70+ with tax, and at first blush that seems high. But in my early testing of this I've discovered two things: (1) my back is no longer fatigued; and (2) because my back is no longer fatigued, I take fewer pauses, which means my mowing gets done more quickly. Preliminary estimates has the time savings in the 20% to 30% range. So, for me, the $70+ expenses is forgotten, and now I'm enjoying the benefits.

Good instructions, easy to install - took me about 10 minutes to get it on my trimmer and adjusted to my liking. The product itself feels very high quality, but also light weight enough that it's not fatiguing to have on your trimmer. I'm a taller guy and this is a must for me when trimming for more than just a few minutes. Saves my back and just makes trimming way more pleasant overall.

My order was received quickly and fully intact. Installation is a breeze, even though I had to turn the handle in the opposite direction due to being a lefty. Even with that slight alteration, this works perfectly, and will most certainly improve your working posture. The byproduct of being able to work fully upright is longevity and endurance during the work day. Great product! Now I just need to be able to fund implementing these on my other pieces of equipment.

I used the handle with a lawn edger, not trimmer. Worked well. Saved stress on back. Handle is well constructed.Only a 4 star due to the following minor issues1) There is NO installation or user manual. Not even a simple page showing how to assemble. They direct you to a web page, but it would not open (tried three different browsers). Had to contact support to get them to send me instructions.2) They include extra stuff (saddle brace, brace straps, thread glue) that are not needed. Even the instructions say "place safely in the garbage", What?? Why include them if you tell me to throw them out?3) No 5mm Allen wrench included but required. OK, maybe you have one, but if you dont you are out of luck.For the high price (twice the cost of off brands), I would expected a better experience assembling the handle.

I was on the fence with buying this but so glad I did. This handle is great. I have a bad back and a pretty big piece of property. Before using the handle I wouldn't be able to even get half the yard done with being in pain. With the Darwin grip I can do the whole property faster then ever and absolutely no pain. Before this I dreaded doing the yard work. Now I look forward to it. Super easy to install and lots of adjustments. I will say if you have a milwaukee electric weed eater you may have some issues installing by the quick disconnect. Mine was fine but I can see it being an issue. Overall I hope the person who invented this is rich because he deserves it.

I purchased four of them! They are amazing product but they discontinued the plastic saddle that supports the handle back in November 2024. I gave them a call & they explained why then made it right to me. Very good customer services!

I have to say that this product has decreased my back pain. I use a trimmer daily for hours and hours. the last several years I've had a problem with my back that is at its worse when using a trimmer. So much so that a couple of years ago i started using a strap and reprogramed myself to use a trimmer differently but still efficient. I like the fact that I can stand up straighter. Being able to adjust this handle around with just a quick release is awesome. This in combination with using a strap is my jam. The only thing i don't like about it is that the secondary support could have been made out of metal as well instead of plastic and Velcro but in the end that piece is that important just added security. Overall great product for people with sore or easily irritated back bones.

I have one of the older original Darwin grips and it’s held up pretty well. Decided to order a new model for my other trimmer. The new models come with a little brace and some Velcro straps.The brace is made of plastic and broke in 2 spots before I ever even used it. Ordered a replacement from Amazon and the new one did the same exact thing.If they made the brace out of aluminum like the main attachment piece, it’d be perfect! But as of now, there’s a good bit of quality and durability to be desired 😒

My main issue with standard D handles on weedwackers is that the angle that my right (trigger) hand is at becomes very uncomfortable for my wrist. Using this handle, I'm able to keep my right hand at a lower position, which is much more comfortable for my wrist.Also saves the back.

Loop handles are uncommon in Japan, but when using loop handles on some models, this Darwin's Grip keeps your body in a neutral position, making work much easier.
