I needed a simple solution for transporting my kayak on my vehicle without a roof rack, so I purchased this strap kit. I had a learning curve when using it for the first time, having never hauled anything before. I even watched a YouTube video to find out how to use cam buckle tie-down straps, which these are, and I had a relative help me the first time I used them. Now it's easy to use, secure (even at 70 MPH on the freeway) and I can do it all with no assistance.Tie down the pads first, passing the straps through the car and buckling them. Then put the kayak on the pads - my kayak is more secure upside down. Then use the remaining straps to secure the kayak, once again passing them through the car and buckling them tightly. Adding a twist to the straps will prevent vibration from the wind. I use the rope-like straps, that also come with it, and some bungee cords I have to secure it from the front and back.

They work well. Pads are quick to throw on and then strap in place. Extra straps are easy to use as well. Might be nicer if they were Cam straps with a crank but still work well. Took off one star for the thin rope and cheap clamps with them. One rope broke on second use. The soft padded strap things are nice too, I’ve kept the pads and those, invested in bungee and cam straps however since.

I wish this had ratcheting straps,.but for the price it works great. Comes with a nic storage bag, easily carry my kayak on a Ford focus hatch. Have used it 3 times and works like new still. Bit of a learning curve to figure.out straps but YouTube had decent videos.

On the day the return window closed, I used this for transporting my kayak for the first time. Installing it on my roof in a secure manor ripped one seam right out. I rigged the strap up anyway and made it work. Later, on the very windy drive, I decided to use the tie downs to better secure the front of the boat. I secured one of the loops under the hood, threaded the rope provided through the loop, pulled it tightly and the loop ripped right off the secured portion. So two rips with very typical use, on the first time out.Not a great track record.I guess I'm keeping this though. At least the ropes and carabiner are intact... pretty expensive though.

Excellent design and very easy to install. They held my 12 foot kayak in place on a 1200 mile round trip and never moved an inch. The non slip design holds them on the roof of the vehicle but doesn’t scratch it. The padding is thick and sturdy. Highly recommend these.

We used this for one SUP. Let me start with the negatives. No installation instructions!!! Several reviews stated this was not an issue for them. For us it was an issue!! One buckle was banging on the paint. We thought we were going to have to place thick pieces of felt covered cardboard under the buckle so it would not scratch the paint. Instead we had to pull the one buckle towards the middle of the vehicle by running the strap through it and pulling it back over our SUP. I have no idea if we were feeding the strap through the buckles in the correct direction or if it even mattered. Something I didn't think or read about was the front and rear tie down ropes had to be adjusted to fit our vehicle. We are not knot people. Getting these ropes to fit was difficult and time consuming (about 45 minutes each). Tie and untie knots so the ropes were not too short or too long. Once on the road as soon as we reached 35 mph it sounded like a loud motorcycle was driving beside us. We made our trip to and from the water safely. Max speed for this trip was 55 mph. We were happy with the way it kept our SUP off the vehicle. We used the two quick loop straps (these go under the hood and tailgate to attach the front and rear tie down ropes). We used one of the extra tie down straps as a precaution as we were not sure we had installed the soft rack properly. It is nice that the soft rack is not a permanent installation and can be removed when not needed. The storage bag is a great accessory.

the pads were easy to install, although my clamps were sewn into place, on the edge, not like the video where they were inside the vehicle. The video is too fast to be able to keep up with any detail of installation. Instructions would be helpful in the packaging. It also comes with 2 of the loops for tying down, but the video shows using 2 in front under the hood and two in back under the hatch. I do not see anywhere to order 2 more loops for tying down the front and the back. A good price for an easy solution for transporting a kayak. I appreciate that. overall, I think I am happy with the product. Just wish I could buy 2 more loops. I have a Prius.
