I bought this to replace an earlier version of the Thermos mug that I'd had for 10 years that I dropped and cracked. There are several upgrades that make this version even better:- it's a bit shorter making it easier to fit into more single serve coffee makers- the open/close method is easier to operate and easier to tell if it's closed. As advertised it does an amazing job of keeping my coffee hot for hours and when the lid is closed, there is zero leakage, even when turning it upside down. The only thing that I'm disappointed with is what is one thing that I thought was going to be solved with the upgrade. There are two openings to drink out of and if you don't line up with one, you can get more liquid than you expect. It's easy to do when it's light out, but in the dark it's almost impossible. With the Thermos logo and indent area on the top of the mug, I was hoping that would line up with one of the openings so that you could feel where to hold it when drinking, but it doesn't actually line up.

It was finally time to retire my 30-yr old Nissan Thermos after multiple tumbles off the roof of my car and onto the pavement and after thousands and thousands of cups of coffee, it just wasn't holding the heat and not keeping my drink hot for very long. Time for a NEW Thermos! This one lives up to its name and is built to last, easy to hold on to, easy to clean and most importantly, they hold their seal so keep my coffee hot and my iced tea cold for hours! This will be my 5th Thermos drink container and they've all been amazing! I highly recommend these for your hot and cold drinks. Well worth every cent!

I have bought 5 of these mugs and love them. I like my tea to stay hot, and these do the job! In fact, you have to be sure to let the drink cool down to the right temperature because it REALLY keeps your drink hot for a long time. You can actually burn your mouth if your drink is too hot when you pour it in (ask me how I know). I use mine for several hours at a time and only when you get to the bottom does it start to cool down. This is the last mug I bought and I got the silver. I bought several other colors, but I always put mine in the dishwasher and the color comes off if you do. If you are willing to hand wash, the colors are pretty. But if you put them in the dishwasher, don't bother because they don't stay pretty long. I have tried several other commuter mugs, but once I found these, I quit. If you like mugs that fit in the cup holder in your car, go in the dishwasher, and you like your drinks hot, buy this one.

This is the third Thermos travel mug of this type that I've owned over a period of time approaching two decades, and the fact that I continue to use one speaks volumes about my satisfaction with its design and performance. These mugs used to be available at a local department store but are no longer sold there so mail order is my only option for obtaining one—either that or finding another local store that carries them, and frankly that is more trouble than it's worth when they are readily available on Amazon. This mug keeps my coffee hot for several hours and drinkably warm for several more. I can always tell without having to look at it whether the lid is open or closed by running my index finger through the slot opposite the side I'm drinking from to determine the position of the locking lever, something that is especially helpful in the dark or when I'm driving. Another thing I like about the mug is the tapered bottom, which allows it to fit into smaller cupholders like those in my trusty 19 year old G35 coupe. The little care and use pamphlet found inside a new mug states that while it is nominally top rack dishwasher safe, hand washing is preferable. It also advises that liquids should not be allowed to remain in the mug for more than 24 hours and that the mug should be thoroughly dried after rinsing or cleaning. My experience is that the longevity of your mug will be greatly enhanced if you follow these recommendations.Because I drink my coffee black I have no problem with bacterial growth in the lid caused by traces of dairy or non-dairy milk/cream lingering in the crevices of the cover, and all I usually do to clean the lid is to rinse it under hot tap water. Every once in a while I do dismantle it to give it a thorough hand cleaning and as I have always been the Mr. Fix-it type—starting at the age of four when I drove my father crazy by taking apart flashlights to investigate how they worked—I actually enjoy doing this. (Unlike the flashlights I dismantled in my youth, I always put the lid back together again.)For those who complain about the lid retaining water after rinsing it or running it through the dishwasher, I have found that leaving the lid in the open position and turning it upside down while/after cleaning allows virtually all of the retained water to drain and evaporate. When new I have found that the lid's seal is tight as a drum, and as the mug gets older and the seals inevitably deteriorate I can handle a small dribble of coffee escaping from the lid if I knock it over. The only reason I bought a new one is because after years of use the dribbling has become a bit more problematic of late and because my old one is battered from having been dropped too often in workplace parking lots, something that is no longer a problem for me since I am five years retired. :o)

Cold drinks stay cold, especially if you add some ice. However, hot liquid doesn’t. The outer body is well insulated and you can’t feel any warmth, but the lid gets very warm meaning the heat is escaping from there.Other than that it has a good seal to keep liquid from leaking when tipped over.

My second purchase of this product. Best I've found for not leaking and keeping items hot or cold. The shape is snug in most cup holders.

I purchased out 1st ones about 11 yrs ago. Our first test was a 7 hr. trip and the coffee was still HOT. I've used mine so much the black paint has worn off, so it's silver now and it has a few dents on it. It needs new seals and gaskets, it still stays hot but it starts cooling down after about 3 hrs. I tried ordering new gaskets/seals from here but they never showed up so I bought a NEW cup for the next 11 yrs. My wife doesn't use hers as much so it's still working like new. If you want a cup to keep you coffee hot, this is your baby !
