I normally use Evah Pirazzi Gold or Obligato strings. These are better. They are worth the extra cost. These strings are unbelievably responsive and improve the dynamic contrast that I'm able to get out of my instrument. For example, it's easier to get a dramatic crescendo when you need it than with the other strings. The tone also sounds richer to me. The Evah Pirazzi strings were too bright for my taste but the PI strings sound more like what I think a viola should sound like. With these strings, I don't have to work as hard to project my sound so I feel like it's easier to make smaller nuances heard. There are more tone colors available with soft dynamics.

omg. these make my cheap viola sound better. I had to use a mellower Dominant A string though as the pi A was too bright for my liking.I put the viola pi A on a violin, lol which sounded better on the violin than the violins Dominant A.Each instrument is different and custom blending strings is fun. Strings help, but an ideal setup is best. Fiddlerman shop has an Amazing soundpost inserter/remover for $12. It has a tension grasp and top part point identifies where the top of soundpost will be so you can identify its position from above to hit that ideal-ish 3mm from right bridge foot location. The bridge density, shape, location and even length of tailpiece changes the sound. Every millimeter matters. Tedious tinkering around but worth it.Edgar Russ Distinguished Violinmaker channel (is one that) gives math #'s & science of setup as he does it that helps if you wish to tweak your own set-up

I use Peter Infeld strings on my violin, and was pleased to find that there are now some for viola. I had been using Dominant D, G, C, and Jargar A for years, pretty well satisfied. But I bought these to see if they made as much difference on my viola as the others did on my violin. The answer is yes! First, the A string is splendid, giving a rich singing sound I had never heard from the instrument. And the C string is sweet and deep. The others are equally fine. They cost more, but for me it's well worth it.

Things I say here may not be applicable to you, because your instrument and preferences are different than mine. I have a Franz Kinberg viola made in Chicago in 1957; it's large and very powerful and bright, which I like. And I play it with an Emile A Ouchard bow from the 1920s which is somewhat light and very quick to respond. Basically, I try to balance that characteristic viola sound with the projection and response that violins and cellos get so easily.So. I personally really like these strings. I switch back and forth between these and Evah Golds, and I'm honestly not sure which I prefer. The Evahs respond somewhat faster and are more complex under my ear, but everyone I've played for says the PIs project better, have more colors, and sound sweeter than the Evahs. My one quibble with this set is the A string; I find it's a little shrill and metallic compared to the rest of the set. I haven't experimented with mixing another A in yet, but it might be worth a try.

I love this set! I was using Obligatos on my viola, which are lovely strings but I wanted more sound. These fit the bill! They stabilize pretty quickly, for me just overnight, the next day I only tuned twice and that was it. Very focused, easy to play, a solid string set. :)

I am a professional musician and purchased these to play mainly in orchestral/pit orchestra settings. I also have used them for quartet gigs. I love these strings because they settle in quicker than Evah Pirazzis do. I have found them to be warm while still carrying their weight within a section. I previously used Passione strings, which I adored but on my viola couldn't hold their own in a larger group setting. I used Vision strings for years and I prefer these strings.
