If you know what this is, and you are looking for something to last for a project, then this should server you well. It feels rugged enough for professional work, but you probably should have a backup just in case.I'll update this review if I have problems with it finishing the job.

I would have liked for it to come with a leather pad, because it is a bit bulky and moves around a little, but other than that, I have no complaints.

I don't use these to feed wire for tying steel. This is great for holding the spool of tie wire in the shop and throwing in the tool box. This keeps the spool organized and the wire collected. It does function well for tying rebar, but that's not my use.

Full Disclosure: I received this product at no cost for evaluation through Amazon Vine program.I am not an Iron Worker or Rebar Worker. I just happened to have a bunch of 2 conductor, 20 gauge wire that kept getting tangled up when I was trying to string it in the cramped crawl space under my house. I originally had three 100 yard rolls, and had probably still 150 to 175 yards left in three separate pieces. I needed a reel to be able to unspool it as I used it.This is a very heavy duty reel. On the down side, there is no inherent way to get wire started on the reel, so I just tied it around the center core, and got it started. I was not able to get all my remaining wire on the reel, but this will be much easier to work with in the future.

Works great for keeping tie wire from unravelling and/or getting tangled. To open / close it, turn the lid with the knob, while holding the bottom plate (inside) with your other hand. Load the wire spool so that it will wind when you turn the knob clockwise. This will ensure that using it does not accidentally loosen the lid. Do not try to turn the big screw in the center.

I have used probably hundreds of these rolls of tie wire while tieing up rebar for footer forms, cross tieing forms, and using to tie ICF block together. They are always a pain because they unroll and you have to hold them and set them down constantly.I don't work in construction anymore, so haven't been able to test it in a work setting - but the construction is great. Great in that it is simple, easy to operate, and overbuilt where it needs to be. The spool for the roll is just enough of a square to hold the wire as it unrolls, all of the wire I have pulled out so far was easy to pull and clip.Great holder for homeowners, but I really wish I would have had this tool if I worked construction - it's perfect.

Good casting on the aluminum. All parts fit together nicely and functions just as intended. I'm not sure what would be gained from a more expensive model, this one does the job.
