I really love this matte box; it's lightweight (compared to my O-Box), built well, etc.But... I hate "clip-on" matte boxes because they slow me down having to take this off a lens, put it somewhere, put the new lens on, then put this back on. It's annoying. Also, I hate the idea of my $10K lens having a metal ring around it that can scratch the outside of it. With that said, I bought this because it came with the 15mm rail mount. However... the "riser" piece is ridiculously small. It's only half an inch of movement. Why even bother, then, with a riser? Just make it like every other brand's, with about 1-2" of movement if needed? I bought this mostly for my 114mm lenses and it's half and inch too low. For the even wider lenses, it's not even close. I emailed Tilta about it and they were basically like, yeah, sorry, but it is what it is. Because of their mounting points, you don't have any real third party options. But, if you want a clip-on matte box, this doesn't even matter.Also... I made the mistake of ordering this kit for $300 more than it needs to be. I only really needed on lens size and the others, I'll never use, as well as the front pieces. Just get the $250ish version, honestly... then buy the extra pieces for the different lenses as you go, if you really need them. You won't though. On the positive... they don't mention it but I was concerned about not being able to use 4x4" filters if I wanted to. Other matter boxes have trays for both sizes. This looks like it's only 4x5.65"... but, those 4x5.65" trays have slots for 4x4" filters too! No sliding back and forth, nice and snug left and right. That surprised me and I think it's a big selling point.

Really excellent matte box with proper *metal* filter holders and three stages, and an LWS support, the latter of which I strongly recommend be put to use. I’m running an integrated VND setup that takes two stages, and can then use the third for a mist filter, etc. This ends up being a fairly heavy setup, so the jury is out for run-and-gun, but if balanced with a battery might not be bad.(I was considering the Polarpro system for similar functionality, but a) it was unavailable at the time of this review I guess due to supply chain issues, and b) proprietary filter systems suck, IMO. The argument *for* the Polarpro setup is that its all-inclusive config is still cheaper than this box + equivalent filters, and it is lighter.)This item Includes several “backs” for different lens diameters, and this in my opinion is the right approach for those that run matching sets of cine lenses. You don’t want to have to adapt all your same-diameter lenses, you just want to adapt the matte box to your lens kit. Of course you can also still choose to adapt different-diameter lenses to a given back, but you’d need to find and buy the rings do to it.Also includes the folding top flag and a series of hard mattes for a variety of focal lengths. The top flag has non-adjustable angled sides for more coverage, so won’t be all that convenient to leave on full-time, and thus it won’t be that useful as a “lens cap”, for my intended purposes. I’m going to try just using a hard matte rather than the top flag and see how things go.

The matte box works well. However, changing lens boards is overly difficult when using rods and their customer service is horrible when compared to what was promised when I bought 4 of these. I recommend either finding a less expensive matte box to save money or buying another brand in order to have decent customer service. Ordering replacement parts is a very bad experience. If you are careful to not lose or break anything, it would be an acceptable purchase.

I was originally using a Fotga dp500mkIII and it was heavy. Loved the swing away but that was really it. Returned it for this Tilta and love it. Added some adapters to fit my 4x4 filters in it and this has been perfect for my needs and I am so thankful I bought it. Solid fit on my Meike MFT Cine lenses and fits three filters. I have definitely seen the benefits of upgrading from the Fotga.

Best Matte Box in price range, holds 3 filters and is very well built, a little on the heavy side but does the job amazingly

Excellent for what you get for the price. Only downside is there is no rotating stage so it makes it tricky for polarizers other than toys-polas.

Even though I was aware of potential issues from reading other reviews, I dropped a filter on my first use of this matte box. The filter tray design is unfortunately terrible. When you place a filter in, the whole assembly becomes quite heavy, and if you even slightly drop it while inserting (by just half a centimeter), the filter slides straight through and falls to the ground. Lovely!Luckily, my filter didn’t break, but the filter support bent slightly (the support is actually quite thin). I had to manually reshape it to fit back into place. What a great first experience with the Tilta MB-T12!Following that, I tried moving my 15mm rods forward (to prevent filters from slipping through) and attaching the support directly to the rods. And guess what? The support is too short! I had to forcibly tilt the lens down to make everything fit. Brilliant design…These two issues cost three stars for me. Without them, it would have been absolutely perfect. As for the build quality, it’s as excellent as Tilta’s other products—top-notch!Good quality, poor design = average product. Consider yourself warned.
