About this item

  • TENNESSEE SMALL BUSINESS: we're a small team specializing in high quality percussion instruments and mallets using the best materials possible; our wood shop is in Nashville, Tennessee, and your choice supports American jobs
  • WHY IT MATTERS: we don't just simply "source" products from overseas factories and put our logo on it; controlling design and production in-house lets us focus on first-class construction to make professional, highly intentional, long-lasting instruments
  • HARD RUBBER MALLETS: the Timber Drum Co. Hard Rubber Mallets give you a sharper, brighter sound than soft rubber but still with a slightly muted attack you would expect from rubber; they draw out a pleasant tone with a bit more attack and volume
  • WHERE TO USE: made for melodic percussion instruments like xylophone, marimba, steel tongue drum, vibraphone and other instruments like wood blocks, temple blocks, log drums
  • ONE BIG THING: please check our other mallets for uses where you need a sharper attack like glockenspiel, bells, energy chime, or wood blocks; the Timber Drum Co. T2HP Hard Poly mallets are best suited for these purposes
  • SOLID BIRCH HANDLES: smooth and well-balanced with rounded tips for comfort; the wood is hand-stained in our shop to bring out the natural grain for a high-end look
  • SPECS: 15.25" L (total), 1" mallet heads, 5/16" diameter handles; sold in pairs
  • THE TAKEAWAY: buying these mallets supports an American company and Tennessee workers, and they give you a rich, sweet sound with a mix of bright attack on more delicate percussion instruments; great for all ages and skill levels

Product Description

Timber Drum Co. is a small workshop located in Nashville, Tennessee dedicated to crafting MADE IN U.S.A. instruments with locally sourced materials. The Timber Drum Co. Hard Rubber Head Mallets are a must-have for percussionists. Sold in pairs, these mallets draw a bright, resonant tone that’s loaded with texture from instruments like our T18-M Slit Tongue Log Drum, keyboard percussion like marimba and xylophone, as well as steel tongue drums or temple blocks. The hard rubber gives you a sharper, brighter sound than soft rubber along with a slightly muted attack you would expect from rubber. Outfitted with 1” diameter hard rubber heads and hand-stained solid birch handles, these mallets measure 15 ¼” length overall (from bottom of handle to top of mallet head). This length gives you effortless reach with a balanced feel on practically any percussion instrument. On the end of the handles, you’ll notice we carefully rounded the tips to give you that extra bit of comfort with high-end feel and look. The Timber Drum Co. Hard Rubber Mallets are designed for any level or type of player, from professional orchestral percussionist to classroom band member. Made in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.

I purchased these mallets for my Kosmosky steel drum to achieve a stronger impact than the felt mallets that came with it. These mallets are fantastic! The wood they are made from feels extremely high-quality and solid. The length of the handle is nice and long, providing excellent control and reach. It can be shortened if needed, but the longer length is a great option for those who require extra reach.I appreciate that this is an American-owned company, and these products are made locally rather than overseas—a rarity on Amazon. This commitment to local manufacturing and quality craftsmanship is evident in the product. These mallets have exceeded my expectations and are a wonderful addition to my instrument setup. Highly recommended for anyone seeking reliable and well-crafted mallets for their steel drum!

The sticks that came with my tongue drum were short with soft rubber heads that didn't do the drum justice. I bought a set of these and it made a world of difference. Now, getting a second set so I can play with 2 sticks in each hand. Well worth it. I play palms up and the wood gives nice vibration feedback. They are well balanced and perfect hardness for 12" tongue drum. It is still possible to strike softly to mute the tone, or use full length of the stick to make it ring out.

I have different mallets that I tried using on my wooden tongue drum, but the tones from the drum just wouldn't shine. When I tried these mallets...my drum finally started singing! I'm very happy! For $10, I thought this was a great bargain! They are well made, sturdy, and the length is perfect for my needs. I have nothing negative to say about these mallets.

Nice mallets but definitely not hard, more medium to medium hard, too soft to play higher octaves

These never made it to me so the order was cancelled by Amazon. I really wanted them due to the hardness and the color but, they never made it so I have no idea how good they are.
