This tip tinner works well for soldering.I needed a tip tinner that works for solder wicking. This tinner puts to much solder on the tip that saturated the wick braid.I found R & R Lotion's tip tinner better for wicking. It is hard and just puts on enough solder to tin the tip.

I thought this was a solid in the can like the other tip tinner I've bought before, but this is a loose power that will spill out of the can if you tip this can. It works and will tin the tip; the powder will stick to the iron and melt.

I’ve never used a tip tinner of this type, having been trained to tin my tips with solder wire. I didn’t know what to expect, but I’m now pretty impressed. It tins the tip with a thin layer of solder – enough to protect the tip but not glob it up the way solder from a spool often does. This appeals to me because it seems to use very little from the metal tin (so it should last), and there’s that much less to knock off the tip when it’s time to use it after it’s been in the stand. Shocking the tip on the sponge can cool it too much if there’s a lot of solder on it, and unless you have a primo soldering pencil, it’s bound to cost you time waiting for it to heat up again. I’ve compared this to zero other tinning products of its type, but as I said, I’m impressed with the different approach. And while you need some solder to clean a tip, I wouldn’t mistake this product for a cleaner. It addresses oxidation, as tinning always does, but I wouldn’t misinterpret the “cleans” part of “Cleans and Re-Tin” from an overseas manufacturer.

This product contains lead and is in powder form.. Be careful this is hazardous to health and also not for lead free soldering applications.
