I am thinking of replacing my deck balusters with cable and ordered this black stainless 1/8 inch cable. When it came in I realized the size included the coating so the wire is actually a little smaller than 1/8 inch and I have to have a minimum of 1/8 inch cable - not including the coating (see pic of size). It is nice cable and a decent kit otherwise and I have plenty of uses for it, but it just wouldn't work for my deck railings.

I love using this type of cable! It is super strong for it's diameter. The Aluminum compression pieces, when compressed correctly, hold insanely well. The first time I used a coated cable, I didn't get the crimp tight enough and under pressure the coating came right off the cable and I had to start over. I stopped using cable with the vinyl coating, but fought every cut end as the cable needs to be cut incredibly clean. Using the coated cable this time and I immediately realized why it is so nice. When making cuts, the ends don't fray out, hair doesn't get caught in the cable, and the crimp ends just slide on.These crimps are not small and require a special tool, not included. I would not use any other tool, as you won't be able to confirm a good crimp. The rest of the parts that come in the set seem ok. Nothing very strong, but not weak either. I'm anxious to see how well the crimps work on the coating.I have a so so carport that doesn't hold up well in the wind, so I am using this to create an "X" on the back side. The turn-buckles will allow me to remove the cables when I need access through the back panel.Initial report is 5 stars, but we'll see how long it holds up against mother nature. If it lasts a year, I'll be super happy!

These wires are OK for light duty usage. I used these wires to suspend each of the several sun shades on four corners. Vinyl coating seems to be fine to prevent frailing and prevent corrosions. The overmolded diameter is 1/8" and using 1/8" aluminum crimps with common 2-position crimps does not provide adequate crimp on the steel wire within the vinyl coating. A week after the installation on a breezy day, a 10-15mph wind caused the steel wires to be stripped off from the crimps and the remaining vinyl coating was sheared off. I tried to use the 8-shape 2-screw crimps as well as U-bolt crimps separately. Same problem! I had to double up on the aluminum crimps, i.e., 4 crimps or an aluminum crimp and a U-bolt crimp, with an extra long tail after the crimp, to prevent stripping. So far, they are holding up. A different solution I tried that worked better is to use 1/8" black steel wires (without vinyl coating) which is heavier duty.

Never thought that as someone with a functioning dryer I'd be so excited about having a clothesline- but I've been wanting one for the longest time but never really knew what I would need to buy and never really had time to look into it.This is perfect though because it's ostensibly got all the hardware I could need! This went up easily, though it took some figuring since I'm new to this- but it seems very good. I don't know how I feel about the wire clothesline vs traditional rope- I imagine this would hold up pretty well- I'm more concerned about the coating breaking off over time. The weather's been below freezing for a while so I haven't actually used it yet with clothes, but I did hang a basket with some random junk to simulate weight on the line for a while. It did pull it, but not much- and it bounced right back when I removed the weight.

This kit has a good variety of attachment hardware along with the spool of coated wire. The wire itself is good quality and is definitely capable of carrying the lighter loads described by the sales information. All the hardware appears solid with good finishes and the threaded ones move smoothly with appropriate tightness. The components I used for my use case were easy to install, and get to a firm tightness with no issues or failures. All have been handling intended loads without any issues, a the black coating looks rather nice.

I was happy that this kit came with everything included for putting this up and I didn’t have to waste time to think about exactly what I would need and then having to shop around for it. I was able to get this put up with the added hardware in very little time. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a small, straight run. Everything went smooth and I had quite a bit leftover. The hardware in this kit worked great and is well manufactured. I liked that the cable is vinyl coated and I hope that adds to its longevity. I was somewhat worried if it would be strong enough and it is. It’s not like it’s really holding a great deal of a weight when you think about it. The lights aren’t that heavy. Anyway, everything came out nice and it looks good. Very satisfied with the results and this kit.
