Why Do We Need to Use TPMS Sensor?

By helping drivers to maintain the proper tire inflation, TPMS sensor can help improve ride and handling, reduce stopping distances, and the potential for hydroplaning. Tire pressure sensors can also increase fuel efficiency and extend tire life. TPMS is designed to monitor the air pressure in a tire and send a warning to the vehicle’s onboard monitoring system when the pressure drops below a preset limit.

What is TPMS?

The TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is designed to measure air pressure and alert the driver when the pressure in one or more of the tires is below 25% of the manufacturer’s recommended pressure. There are two types of systems, direct and indirect. The far more utilized and more accurate Direct System uses sensors that are attached to each wheel. These sensors communicate with the vehicle’s TPMS module. The Indirect System typically utilizes the vehicle's antilock braking system’s (ABS) speed sensors to monitor pressure.

Can I Replace the TPMS Sensor by Myself?

Replacing TPMS sensors requires a tire changer. The wheel should be rebalanced after installation. If you or your friend have access to a tire changer and balancer, along with the proper tools for installation of the sensors and the relearn procedure, you could attempt to replace a sensor. However, we recommend you have a reputable repair shop do the installation and relearn.

tpms warning

What to do when your TPMS WARNING LIGHT on?

1. If your TPMS light comes on, and stays on, that means at least one of your tires is at low-pressure level. After knowing that, you should check the pressure of all of the tires with a gauge and add air or service the tire(s) accordingly.

2. If TPMS light goes on and off, it could be caused by fluctuating temperatures in the tire. This could be repaired by checking the pressure of all of the tires and adding air to any tire that is low.

3. If the light flashes for approximately 60 to 90 seconds every time you start your car and then the light stays on, you should inspect the TPMS sensor and maybe need to replace a new TPMS in most cases.

Why do I Need the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Sensor (TPMS) in my Vehicle?

As of the model year 2008, the United States Department of Transportation (through NHTSA) requires an installation of a Tire Pressure Monitoring System to all new passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks, and buses that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 lbs. or less (except those vehicles with dual wheels on an axle). The legislation requiring TPMS was passed in reaction to Congressional hearings on vehicle rollover deaths caused, in part, by vehicles with underinflated tires.

2018 Chevy Equinox LT. Two sensors failed and I wasn't able to reset them so I picked these up and they worked great. The tire shop installed then and activated them as well the vehicle recognized them and now all is well.

Finally got new tires and had them installed. Used the reset/learn tool and they linked right up. Tire pressure matches my gauge. It turned the light off on the dash Very happy for the price.

Purchase tpms months ago. Only use one. Service tires monitor light comes on yesterday. Check tpms with tpms tool. Tire with newer tpms is not reset. So I have no issue with that replace with 2 of tpms sensors left. Problem reset these2 sensors. Twice after a long process the sensors reset. I cut car off, service tires monitor light comes on ,I did this twice. Same result. These monitors seem to be defective. Installing monitors is not free it cost for each tire. It's important monitor have some life to it. Especially during these days. Try to send pictures of my dashboard screen and sensor in tires.

I have used them for a few days now, and they are working fine! But here is the deal... when I had them installed, the tire shop in Puebla, Mexico, didn't know how to reset them. So, I had to search online and I found the solution:1. Turn the ignition of the van to the ON position. (don't start the car)2. On your car KEYS, press the UNLOCK and LOCK buttons at the same time for about 5 seconds, until the car beeps.3. You will see on the dashboard display that the tires are ready to be calibrated.4. Start deflating the front left tire for about 5 seconds until you hear a beep.5. Do this with the rest of the tires, clockwise, and you are DONE!I didn't need a special tool or a special electronic machine like those that you find in some of the YouTube videos. So, no tools are needed! They worked for my Chevy Van Express.

Quick and easy to install by breaking down the outside bead and swapping the new ones in. It helps to pull the bead down and place a block between wheel and tire to give room to work. These did not automatically read but picked up during the relearn procedure which does not require any special tools. Just set the truck in relearn mode and let air out of driver front tire until it honks, then just move around the truck repeating the process until you get to drivers rear and it will honk twice. For me, when it honked twice, I looked at the dash and all 4 had psi readings. Just air the tires back to spec and its done.
