Learn to twine a basket!
Twining is one of the earliest methods of basket making. Twining styles, materials and decorative motifs vary by region.
Open twining, as taught in this kit, is common among many cultures worldwide and in North America.

The kit comes packed in a plastic bag that can be used to store materials while you make your basket.
Baskets are woven containers. They are extremely important to human existence because they allow for the storage of food and carrying of resources. Humans worldwide have used native materials to craft baskets to aid in daily tasks and requirements. In addition to utilitarian basketry, decorative basketry is also important for artistic expressions of individuality and spirituality.
Archaeologists and historians have learned much about ancient cultures from basketry fragments which have been found across the globe. Basketry continues on as an important human activity.
BASKETRY
The four main types of basketry are coiling, plaiting, twining and wicker. Each type requires different types of materials and has many variations of designs, shapes, sizes and techniques. Our kits are designed with the beginner in mind. However, we also offer many kits for the more advanced basket maker, who is willing to put in several hours to complete a more elaborate pattern. Many of our kits include design templates so that you can create your own patterns and order supplies from us as needed.
POTTERY
Pottery is also a traditional craft that most cultures that had access to clay performed. Pots were made for practical uses such as foods storage and preparation, as well as ceremonial and decorative purposes. Today we still enjoy handmade pottery made by artisans and sold in many galleries across the world. We have developed our pottery kits so that you can complete an air-dried pinch pot and decorate it with as many decorative design options as you like.
OTHER CRAFTS
People are extremely creative and when there is a need for something, it can be made. We have also included several other craft kits such as weaving, ornaments, noise making instruments, rock carvings.

My daughter has already done several of the beginner level kits. She wanted another that was a bit bigger and had a handle. This was a Christmas gift and she has worked on it a bit and it is looking fantastic. Instructions are clear, and materials included. Turning into a great basket that will be useful, and she is honing her skills in basket weaving.

Overall, the instructions were pretty good. Considering you just start with a bunch of twine, I’m impressed with what I ended up with. I echo what other reviewers said- it ends up being not quite enough material but I made do. The end product is imperfect but I attribute that to my amateur skills. I think it was a pretty good activity. I would note that it did take many hours of rote weaving and took some pretty intense grip strength so I’d personally be wary of doing it with kids.

Basketry is a skill I’ve been wanting to learn for a while. I ordered a few different kits & this is my first attempt… success!I completed this in 2 sittings. It took several hours & at times I took big chunks of it apart bc I didn’t read/follow the directions properly. Ultimately, I am so happy with it! I feel like I’ve mastered this technique & I can’t wait to learn other basket styles!

I have made several Wildwoods Craft Kits baskets, and this is the first one where I felt there was insufficient materials provided. I following the instructions very closely and used a ruler to confirm that my weaving was tight enough, but I still ran out of thin weaving material. If you buy this kit, ignore where it says to make the open weave 1/4" apart and instead make it about 1/2" apart. Other than that, this is a great kit and a fun and useful basket design to make.

I've been watching Naked and Afraid (lol) and a lot of the participants had basic basket weaving knowledge which made me want to give it a try. This product has easy to comprehend instructions and when I had questions, I referred to the sellers YouTube page (@ found on instruction pamphlet) where they walk you through the steps! My kit came with more than enough materials for the project as well. My basket is a bit uneven (I messed up some of the weaving) but still super stable regardless! Awesome kit and inspired to keep practicing

It was definitely a great first time even though it looks nothing like the pictures in the instructions I still had fun! It took me about 6 hours to complete and was worth every minute. I would suggest this to anyone interested in beginning basking weaving!
