Worked perfectly to connect our mid-1990's HP 4L LaserJet to our late model HP Pavilion desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. We got tired of paying $$$ for black toner cartridges for our Color LaserJet just to print black & white documents, so we pulled the old 4L out of storage. If you've got one of these LaserJet 4 series machines you know what reliable economical workhorses they are.The Tripp-Lite cable worked the very first time and installation couldn't possibly be easier:1. Have the computer booted up and ready2. Connect the Centronics end of the cable to the printer3. Power up the printer4. Connect the other end of the cable to an unused USB port on the computerImmediately Vista recognized the printer, installed the driver and reported that everything was ready to go. All automatically, in maybe 5 or 10 seconds. There was no need to use the supplied driver disk, configure printer ports, or anything. It was truly plug and play. The 4L now shows up in the printer list for all my applications and it works perfectly.Unlike other, cheaper cables, this one supports true bidirectional communication, and I have a hunch that's why it installs so effortlessly and works so well. No hassle, great performance--- definitely worth the price.

Two-Sentence Summary: This device successfully connects my mid-90's era printer with my new computer. Works well with Windows 8.1 and Server 2012, and drivers provided by Tripp-Lite are easy to install. This cable is used to connect my circa-1998 HP Deskjet 1120 Printer with a modern computer that lacks a parallel port. The centronics/parallel connector fit securely on the back of the printer, and the USB-A connector plugs into any standard USB port. Using the drivers from Tripp-Lite's website, which are also provided on an included mini-CD, I had the cable setup and working in under five minutes. Since installation there have been no issues and my printer works just like it did before on a computer with a parallel port. My computer runs Windows 8.1 and Server 2012/R2, so this device should work on any recent Microsoft Operating System (7, 8, Server 2012, etc.). The mini-CD may cause trouble with some slot-loading or other CD drives, so I would recommend downloading the drivers from Tripp-Lite's website prior to installation. The only skill required is installing a driver, which is readily done in Windows via Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager (Hardware). Overall this device serves its purpose very well and I recommend it when a parallel-to-usb adapter is needed.

I don't usually buy "gold plated" anything and had no idea that the quality of a cable would make a big difference, but this high quality Tripp Lite USB to Parallel Printer Cable is totally worth it. Just plugged my Dell Laptop into my old HP Laser Printer & it works. Period. No ports or menus to play with, Windows Identifies the printer and instantly installs. The "cheap" $14 cables sold by Amazon are worthless junk. I can't believe a $10 upgrade made the difference.I had a "cheap" one and it never worked, spent hours & hours trying to re-install each time. What a waste!Get this baby. It works! Mine cost $28. Now it's listed for $26. Who knows, maybe yours will be $24?

I needed to use my old HP LaserJet 4L printer with my new 64 bit OS computer running on windows vista home premium. I had to return another capable because it was not compatible with my configuration (64 bit). This one ended up being compatible although it did not seem like it at first based on some messages I received during the installation process. It ended up working just fine. The USB connection was the only way I could use the printer with my new computer.

I have a number of the excellent HP Laserjet 6MP printers, as they are awesome. They require a special USB to 1284 cable to work with modern computers. Most of these cables do not work with Mac computers. This one does work, and without any problems.I have tested this Tripp Lite U206-006-R USB to IEEE Gold Parallel Printer Adapter Cable on a number of my macs. It works every time:MacBook running OS X Snow Leopard 10.6Power Mac G5 running OS X Leopard 10.5Power Mac G4 running OS X Tiger 10.4Power Mac G4 running OS 9.2I have tried it on multiple 6MP printers, all work fine.No drivers or any software needs to be installed, the Mac operating system software works fine as is.

When I received the cable I could not get it to work. Went on line and found out I need to download an additional driver. Tried that with no success. Call Tripp Lite and found that I had received a cable that was at least five years old. Tripp Lite send me a new cable which worked fine.

This adapter cable worked great for connnecting my old HP4MP laser printer to a USB port on my Windows XP PC. I also used a Belkin 10' USB extension cable sold here. Once I turned on the printer, the port and printer was automatically recognized by Windows and the install was done. It was that simple. No need to use the drivers included with the mini-CD.Although I don't care about the gold plating, the cable looks very well constructed and isn't flimsy. Highly recommend it for dealing with your old printers with only a parallel port.

This is for Tripp Lite USB to Parallel Printer Cable (USB-A to Centronics 36-M) 6-ft. (U206-006-R). I've used this cable to connect an old HP Laserjet 5000 (parallel port only) to several Windows 10 PCs. As soon as the cable connects to the PCs, Windows immediately recognized an IEEE device and seconds later, computers recognized the LJ5000. Highly recommended if you have printers that have only parallel ports.

Con este cable y con cierta configuración en windows usando NET USE, fué posible asignar el puerto paralelo a un LPT1 standard y utilizar aplicaciones viejitas que impriman en impresoras paralelas.

Tried this cable on several Windows 10 computers in a variety of USB ports. At no time did the operating system ever recognize it. I was unable to install any parallel port printer. I tried every software port manually, and every one gave a "printer error" when trying to print a test page. I suspect that whatever is embedded as drivers are now obsolete and Windows 10 no longer recognizes that the cable is installed. I could not find any updates or new drivers on the Tripp Lite webpage. Skip this product if you are using Windows 10.
