I was looking for a small sledge to use to pound large stakes into the ground. I didn't know exactly what size I needed but liked that I could use this one handed. I was a little worried it wouldn't be big enough for this task.Worries were averted though as this more than did the job. In fact, the first post I pounded in I actually shattered from about the top down about 8 inches. Very impressive. The handle is nice and light and very similar to my Truper pick axe which I've been very happy with. It seems to be strong and will hopefully hold up well over time for tasks demanding more than the normal 16 oz. hammer.

I think we're gonna need a bigger arm. This is for the 8 lb. 16 inch hammer. It's basically a one handed 8 pound sledge, I have used it so far for shaping and forging steel. With this much weight it easily does the job, feels very sturdy. I was previously using a 4 pound one hander, this 8 pounder does tire you out pretty quick (well duh) but it does git er dun. I could probably use the exercise anyways and it means I don't spend too much time forging.Love my BFH

(Bought the 6lb) Use it in land surveying. To be honest, love this hammer. It doesn't seem to hold well against rust though. That being said, the rust isn't actually that bad, and the local humidity doesn't help. Works well, if you can swing it reliably, with 3' Lath in medium to softer soils. Harder soils, prefer a 4lb. With this, I've exploded hubs in harder soils.

I like this hammer, but mine weighed a smidge over 9 lbs. I'm not complaining lolIt's very sturdy. Good balance. Should handle forge welding just fine.
It broke the second day at work

I like that this bridges the weight between the small sledges and the bigger heavy duty ones. I used this for pounding stakes for our footing forms. Did the job well with enough heft than the 4 pounders. Well spent money on this tool and hope to have it serve me well in the garage that I’m building.

This six pound sledge is perfect for driving in metal stakes into the ground. I'm a carpenter and use it daily to set forms and I have no complaints at all. It's light enough not to cause arm fatigue and strong enough to get the job done. The rubber guard protects the handle in case of overstike which is truly a blessing for the life of the hammer. I also like that the face of the head is textured not smooth which helps prevent slips. If I ever need another sledge for concrete forms again, I'd definitely buy this one.

Excellent quality. If you buy for Blacksmithing you will have to redress the surface to get rid of lathe grooves
